Rosehill Tips January 17

TAB Highway Handicap Tips (Race 2)

Rosehill Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 18 Roses Imminente

There is perhaps a slight query dropping in distance third-up, however a testing 1400m could still suit Roses Imminente, whose last win came on heavy ground over this trip.

She resumed with a solid return without luck in a decent provincial affair before heading to the Randwick Highway on December 20.

That Highway has already produced two subsequent winners and her performance there was admirable.

Held up and in restricted room, Roses Imminente still worked home well for fourth.

Her late work when settling back in a Muswellbrook trial on January 11 was hard to miss and she is a decent price for a mare that is going well.

Midway Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Rosehill Value Bet - Race 3 No. 12 Hazel Jean

Hazel Jean produced a terrific fresh performance at Canterbury in a race won by smart stablemate Caffe Florian.

That form has since been franked with Caffe Florian scoring a Listed win at Gosford on December 28.

Coming from the rear, Hazel Jean recorded the second-fastest closing sectionals of the entire December 12 program.

She was a well-backed favourite second-up on January 1 and while disappointing, there were excuses after being slow away and spotting the leaders a big start in a leader-dominated race.

Her maiden win came third-up last March and she rounded out that preparation with back-to-back placings, both on rain-affected tracks.

Ranvet Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Rosehill Roughie - Race 7 No. 10 Kureder

It is a typically open staying contest to kick off the Rosehill quaddie and Chris Waller is represented by two outsiders.

Kureder is the rougher of the pair and returns south after opening the preparation in Brisbane.

Those runs came over trips a little short of his best and the last two efforts have been pass marks.

The gelding now drops sharply in the weights for a suitable rise in distance, with 3kg claimer Siena Grima taking the ride.

Kureder has a consistent record at 2400m and has been runner-up in two of his past three Sydney runs at the trip in this grade, both times carrying 4.5kg more.

TAB Handicap Tips (Race 10)

Rosehill Best Bet - Race 10 No. 7 Cross Tasman

Cross Tasman is the shortest-priced favourite on the meeting and is the popular elect in the finale chasing a hat-trick in this Benchmark 78.

The O’Shea & Charlton-trained galloper showed promise during his first campaign last winter and was gelded ahead of this preparation.

He resumed with a tough win at Randwick-Kensington, carrying 60.5kg when holding off Calgary Power.

Second-up he was far more arrogant, pulling away for a soft win despite covering ground.

By Super Seth and out of three-time Group 1 winner Daffodil, he is well bred and looks well placed to go on with it.
