Asahi Super Dry Handicap Tips (Race 5)


Rosehill Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 2 Codetta

Winter is the ideal time to blood a talented apprentice rider and Jace McMurray is taking his opportunities, with seven winners since moving from Queensland last month.

The 3kg claimer stays aboard Codetta from her eye-catching return a fortnight ago, where the filly ran the fastest last 800m/600m/400m and 200m of the meeting.

She gets a 2kg weight swing on King's Secret from that May 31 clash and being second-up vs a key rival who is fourth-up, Codetta could be the one with more upside.

Ranvet Handicap Tips (Race 6)


Rosehill Roughie - Race 6 No. 13 Agita

Although he didn't progress in three subsequent outings, Agita was a strong first-up winner last campaign and he was heavily backed ahead of that Warwick Farm attempt.

The four-year-old was tried over longer distances in that summer prep, but perhaps keeping him on the fresh side and to shorter trips is more suitable (hasn't won past 1600m).

David Payne-trained horses are often overlooked by the market, which has been evident over the last week, with his two metro winners saluting at $15+.

Rosehill Value Bet - Race 7 No. 1 Testator Silens

Testator Silens still has 61kg despite a 2kg claimer being engaged, however, the seven-year-old is a proven weight carrier and he's building towards a seventh career win.

His Listed return at Hawkesbury was a pass mark and second-up, the gelding got home strongly from off the speed at Randwick (fastest last 200m of the May 24 meeting).

He was competitive in stronger grade last winter and Testator Silens has a good Rosehill record, with two wins and four placings from eight starts here (2.09-lengths is his biggest Rosehill defeat).

Rosehill Feature Bet - Race 8 No. 6 Don Diego De Vega

If Don Diego De Vega turns up, then he should be putting away this Winter Cup field, however, can we trust the five-year-old to deliver second-up?

After showing promise in a short first Australian, the grey looked a potential Sydney Autumn Carnival contender before putting in two shockers over summer (needs wet ground?).

His winter resumption over 2000m in the Lord Mayors Cup was decent and over this longer journey on Saturday, he maps for more favours from a kinder draw.

Rosehill Best Bet - Race 9 No. 6 Half Yours

This four-year-old landed the cash for us at a good price on May 31, where he sustained a long run after taking off early due to a slow tempo up front.

Did an excellent steer flatter the margin for Half Yours? Perhaps, although he still gave them a belting and the McEvoy-trained galloper stays in BM78 company fourth-up.

In the same grade, I suspect that Half Yours can handle the weight and he was more than six weeks between runs third-up (is there improvement to come or does he need to be fresh?).
