Geelong hosts an eight-race country meeting on Wednesday, April 1, with a blend of maidens and handicaps set to feature across the program.

With a number of lightly raced runners progressing through their grades and several open races on the card, punters can assess the key chances while also using Live Streaming to follow the action as it unfolds.

Geelong Tips April 1

Geelong Best Bet - Race 3 No. 5 Pasadena

He perhaps didn’t relish the Heavy track on debut, but it was still a solid effort to finish third behind the handy Royal Flair.

The form has since been franked, with that maiden producing two subsequent winners, including the runner-up Cooly, who was a comfortable metro maiden winner at her next start.

Royal Flare also followed that effort with a narrow defeat in a decent Class 3 on Ballarat Cup Day, further strengthening the form reference.

The three-year-old was spelled following that debut run and has returned in good order, with two solid Flemington jump-outs completed.

Finding what looks a thin maiden on paper, the son of Exceedance has remained a clear favourite despite a slight early drift and looks well placed to breakthrough.

Geelong Value Bet - Race 5 No. 3 Trebilco

From a strong family that includes Group 1 winners Bint Marscay, Filante and Kenny’s Best Pal, Trebilco is up in distance second-up.

He failed to fire on resumption at Pakenham on March 12; however, there were clear excuses, with EIPH detected post-race.

His jump-out work leading into that run had been encouraging, and he remains lightly raced for a four-year-old.

The Team Hawks-trained galloper showed ability earlier in the season with back-to-back seconds, including a runner-up effort behind Enamorada, who has since proven city class.

With Jye McNeil engaged, who rode him to his best career performance at Bendigo last preparation, he’s worth another chance at each-way odds in a race that’s no harder than the fresh event.

Geelong Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 8 Pula

Prepared by an in-form Danny O’Brien stable, Pula arrives here third-up and nearing peak fitness.

The four-year-old finished runner-up as favourite last time out at Sandown, briefly looking the winner before being overpowered late by Blistering.

That quinella cleared out from the rest, adding strength to the performance.

Prior to that, the daughter of Pierro had been building well with strong metro efforts, including a placing at Caulfield Heath when stepping to 1500m second-up.

Despite a 2kg rise on Wednesday, Pula drops back into a country BM62 and looks well placed to go one better.

Geelong Roughie - Race 8 No. 10 Jammin Jimmy

Still lightly raced for a six-year-old, Jammin Jimmy is going better than recent form suggests.

He had excuses at Wangaratta in early February when badly held up in a BM62 following a freshen-up.

The gelding was then six weeks between runs at Terang, where he dropped in grade but again had little luck when settling off the speed and encountering trouble in the straight.

The Mitchell Freedman-trained galloper comes from an in-form yard that has produced five winners from its past 15 runners.

In an open race to close the Geelong card, Jammin Jimmy is worth including at a big each-way quote.
