Eagle Farm Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 1 Brave Monarch

A $20,000 yearling buy, Brave Monarch showed ability when runner-up in a pair of Doomben trials prior to debuting last month.

He settled off the speed on debut in a 1000m maiden on a good 4 surface here at Eagle Farm, finishing fifth and beaten two-and-a-half lengths in a solid first-up showing.

The son of Brave Smash returned to trial just six days later and impressed again before breaking through when stepping to 1200m for a Doomben maiden.

He travelled midfield that day and finished strongly to score by just under half-a-length, with the first two clearing out by more than three lengths from the rest.

The Chris and Corey Munce-trained gelding looks well placed to measure up in stronger company, and with natural improvement he can go back-to-back.

Eagle Farm Value Bet - Race 6 No. 6 Billionair Baby

Billionair Baby is a proven performer at Eagle Farm, having broken his maiden here over 1400m as a juvenile in 2022.

The son of Winning Rupert has added two further wins since, including a front-running success at Doomben last December when scoring by almost two lengths over 1350m on a wet track.

He’s raced on good ground in seven of eight runs since, with the best of those coming last month when finishing fourth, beaten two-and-a-half lengths in a Class 5 at Doomben.

Drawn well in barrier two, he maps to enjoy a soft run on speed and handles the forecast heavy conditions, having placed in all four prior attempts on rain-affected ground.

Robert Heathcote’s gelding looks value to bounce back and return to winning form.

Kia Open Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Eagle Farm Best Bet - Race 8 No. 9 Holy Racket

Holy Racket has produced two strong efforts from as many runs at Eagle Farm, including a third placing over this trip in April when beaten just over half-a-length in Benchmark 85 grade.

The New Zealand-bred five-year-old was forced wide that day but stuck on gamely, and he went on to record another placing at Ipswich next start before being spelled following a below-par June run.

He returned with an excellent second over this course and distance last month, again closing off powerfully through the line.

Proven on soft and heavy going, the gelding looks ideally placed to go one better here.

Angela Jones and Mark Currie combine at a 28% strike rate (39 from 138), and the pair can add to that tally in this event.

Ladbrokes Spring Hosted Pots Benchmark 78 Handicap Tips (Race 10)

Eagle Farm Roughie - Race 10 No. 13 Pareto

Pareto is well suited under the conditions, with two of his three wins coming on heavy tracks.

The David McColm-trained gelding scored impressively on debut over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast last year and resumed to win fresh at Ballina in similar conditions last prep.

He’s continued to improve this campaign, breaking through for his third victory at Doomben two starts back when leading throughout to win by half-a-length over 1200m.

The track was too firm when fading into tenth last time over 1350m at Doomben, but he drops back in trip and finds a preferred softer surface.

Damien Thornton’s mount has early speed to offset the wide alley and looks a knockout chance at big odds.
