An honest type who will only strip fitter third-up, Weearechoux was always going to need the first-up hit-out over 1200m after a campaign built around staying trips beyond 2000m.

That included a comfortable 2200m triumph on March 29 with 60kg, so the weight poses no issue here as he drops in grade and steps out third-up.

He went from 1200m to 1600m second-up — never an ideal profile — and the market drifted accordingly, yet the effort was better than the eight-of-nine finish reads.

The gelding was mostly consistent in similar company last season and still retains the stamina base to be effective at this level.

A stakes-winning three-year-old in July, 2024, Weearechoux remains capable of surprising at a price.

An outstanding edition of the Prince Of Wales Stakes awaits, where WA’s top sprinters Jokers Grin and Repossession meet, while Oscar’s Fortune adds further class returning from Melbourne.

Jokers Grin commands respect as the number-one seed, with his only autumn defeat coming in the Roma Cup — a race he initially dead-heated before losing on protest.

He bounced straight back with a superb victory in The Quokka, defeating Headwall, Generosity and Overpass — form that measures up in any national sprint.

Unbeaten in six starts over 1000m, he brings both brilliance and tactical adaptability to this race.

With that explosive turn-of-foot fresh, Jokers Grin looks poised to reaffirm himself among the most interesting runners in Australian sprint ranks.

Asian Beau Stakes Tips (Race 9)

A typically well-bred galloper from the Bob Peters operation, Cosmic Crusader is by Maurice out of a Group-winning half-sister to Superstorm, who took out the 2021 Champions Mile.

He’s been a later bloomer but has made rapid strides this season, stringing together two dominant September victories.

That included an 8.5-length all-the-way romp on September 20 before a short freshen-up, and he looked sharp again winning a recent trial.

The balance, rhythm and strength in that trial suggest he’s right where the stable wants him heading into this assignment.

The setup and timing both look ideal — he’s the best bet on the program.

Ascot Value Bet - Race 10 No. 11 Exceed The Planet

An improving four-year-old with upside, Exceed The Planet has the scope to take the next step this prep despite a tricky draw.

After being held up in traffic first-up on October 11, he found the line well once clear and should take natural improvement into this.

An ability to absorb pressure and quicken late has always been his strength, and he showed that quality when placing at Listed level over this track and trip last season.

A dominant maiden winner in April before being spelled, he’s returned stronger and looks to have developed both physically and mentally.

An even tempo would help him find a rhythm early, and at each-way odds, Exceed The Planet appeals as a genuine knockout hope to finish the day.
