The Hawks have wrapped up the minor premiership but will still likely play their full roster of players due to the big break in play that is expected prior to their semi final matchup. The Hawks wrapped up the minor premiership with a win over the New Zealand Breakers on Wednesday 96-82. With Trey Kell III missing the game due to a niggling injury the scoring load was picked up by Tyler Harvey with 29pts 5 boards and 8 assists as well as Todd Blanchfield who contributed with 17 pts off the bench on 4 of 11 shooting from the field but a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe.
The victory was the Hawks second in a row after their demolishment of the JackJumpers last weekend and also secured a 3-0 series sweep against the Breakers in NBL25. Despite keeping their opponent to just 82 points the Hawks gave up 50 of those points in the paint to a team missing the best player and scorer and their second best not playing in the second half.
If there are any negatives to say about the Illawarra season it is their penchant to allow teams to stay in games they are not worthy of being in. It is clear the agression and mongrel switches off once they have built a big lead and multiple times they have found themselves having to defend their lead late in the 4th quarter.
