Two of the most in-form players on tour square off in the China Open quarter-finals as Amanda Anisimova and Jasmine Paolini clash for the first time since 2021 on Thursday in Beijing.

Anisimova has established herself as a top four player in 2025, reaching the last two Grand Slam finals at Wimbledon and the US Open, while she's also already lifted WTA 1000 silverware this year in Doha. Meanwhile, Paolini comes into this clash having won 13 of her last 15 matches - including her last six straight in China after leading Italy to their Billie Jean Cup title defence last week.

It sets up what should be a cracking contest in the Chinese capital, with a place in the semi-finals up for grabs. Paolini hasn't dropped a set all tournament, while Anisimova had to come from a set down to beat Karolina Muchova in her previous round - the first time in 11 matches since 2022 she's come back to beat a top 20 player. The value is with Paolini as the underdog and for Over 21.5 total games.

Anisimova leads 1-0, but Paolini is a completely different player to that lone meeting in 2021 in Parma, which the American prevailed by a 6-2 6-1 score.

Anisimova has put together a 42-16 record on the season heading into this showdown, cementing herself in the world's top four and in a strong position to qualify for the year-ending WTA Finals.

It's been a magical year for Anisimova after returning to the sport - she captured her first WTA 1000 title at the Qatar Open in February and has gone to a new level over the last few months, reaching back-to-back Grand Slam finals at Wimbledon and the US Open, where it took Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka to stop her.

Anisimova beat the likes of Swiatek and Naomi Osaka to reach the US Open final and she's continuing her brilliant form at the China Open.

The 24-year-old defeated Katie Boulter and Zhang Shuai in straight sets before overcoming Muchova in three, coming back from an opening set blitz to prevail 1-6 6-2 6-4.

Jasmine Paolini Form

Paolini has compiled a 31-10 record on the season coming into this encounter, maintaining a place inside the world's top five.

Overall, Paolini has done an excellent job of backing up her superb breakout season of 2024, where she made finals of the French Open and Wimbledon. In many ways, it's eerily similar to that of Anisimova's 2025 campaign.

The Italian has played some of her best tennis over the last couple of months, reaching the Cincinnati final and the third round of the US Open before this current six-match winning run in China, where she won all three Billie Jean Cup matches for Italy - including beating the likes of Jessica Pegula and Elina Svitolina.

Paolini has continued her fine form to make a first quarter-final in Beijing, cruising past Anastasija Sevastova, Sofia Kenin and Marie Bouzkova in straight sets.
