As Western United and Adelaide United prepare to clash in the A-League Elimination Final at IronBark Fields, Western is seemingly in a strong position. They boast an impressive home record, having lost just one game and securing a five-match winning streak at their venue. In contrast, Adelaide's form has been poor, winning only one of their last 11 games and facing the additional setback of missing their star striker, Archie Goodwin. With these factors in play, Western is favored to capitalize on their home advantage and advance in the competition.

It's do or die for Western United and Adelaide United as the two teams square off in the first A-League Elimination Final on Friday night at IronBark Fields.

There's absolutely no doubt who's in the better shape heading into this sudden death showdown. Western have lost just one game at IronBark Fields all season (vs minor premiers Auckland) and come into this clash on a five-match winning streak at the venue, including toppling Sydney 1-0 and Auckland 4-2 in their last two outings. Meanwhile, Adelaide have limped into the finals on the back of some shocking form that has seen them win just one of their last 11 games.

With this in mind, I can only see one winner here. Western thumped Adelaide 3-0 at this ground back in February, while Adelaide are also missing star striker Archie Goodwin to injury. The Reds have managed to score in eight of their last nine games, so they can find the back of the net in defeat, while Western forward Noah Botic is tipped to add to his 12 goals this campaign by scoring the opener, with some doubts surrounding the fitness of fellow striker Hiroshi Ibusaki.

Adelaide had been unbeaten in four previous meetings with Western until their Round 20 clash in February, which the hosts won in dominant fashion, 3-0. Botic scored the opening goal in that win, with Ibusaki and Riku Danzaki also getting on the scoresheet.

Western United Form


Western finished the regular season in third spot on the ladder, just one point behind Melbourne City for a top two finish.

It's been an outstanding season for Western, with the team winning 14 of their 26 games and scoring the second-most goals in the competition (55).

As mentioned, Western have turned IronBark Fields into a fortress, losing just one game at their home ground all season.

John Aloisi's side have also won their last five games at this venue, including big wins over Sydney and Auckland over the last fortnight.

Tate Russell is sidelined with a hamstring injury, while a late call will be made on striker Hiroshi Ibusaki, who has scored 10 goals for the season, but didn't feature in the last game vs Auckland.

Adelaide United Form


Absolutely horror end to the season for Adelaide, but they somehow managed to sneak into the finals in sixth spot - despite winning just one of their last 11 outings.

Sydney FC held all the cards over the last fortnight, especially with Adelaide having the bye in the final round, but the Sky Blues couldn't get over the line against Western and Melbourne City, allowing the Reds to snatch a finals ticket.

Carl Veart will depart the club at season's end, but now has an unexpected chance to leave on a high - however, he will need to work some magic to reverse his team's current form.

After winning their opening six away games of the season, Adelaide have gone winless in their last seven on the road.

Huge blow for Adelaide, with star striker Archie Goodwin suffering a hamstring tear and sidelined until deep into the finals, should the Reds make it that far. Luka Jovanovic is expected to lead the line in his absence.

Western are in vastly superior form and have won their last five games at IronBark Fields.

Adelaide have been in shocking form to end the season and are missing Goodwin up front - backing Western to advance here.
