The NSW Blues Women are positioned to clinch a commanding 2-0 series victory over the QLD Maroons Women in the 2026 State of Origin, with experts forecasting they will cover the 8.5 point spread. The Blues' defence and attacking flair, led by Jesse Southwell and Jessica Sergis, have consistently outperformed Queensland, whose attack has lacked finishing power. The Maroons will struggle to break through, with Sergis expected to score another try and NSW's superior all-round game likely ensuring a result under 37.5 points.

QLD Maroons Women vs NSW Blues Women, State of Origin Game 2 2026 - Expert Prediction

NSW will wrap up the series with a 2-0 victory stamping their dominance over QLD by covering the 8.5 points as the favourites.

The Maroons put up a gallant effort in Game one to keep the result within a converted try, but with a run in their legs and a few more weeks in camp, the Blues attack will find its flow at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday, just as it did in their 32-12 victory in Game 1 last season.

The NSW core have shown that they are the superior unit in this contest and they will do that again in Game 2. Over the 2025 series and the opening match in 2026 the QLD attack has not had the creativity to break the the Blues defensive line, scoring an average of just 10.5 points per game over the last 4 matches.

The Blues will once again absorb the pressure of the Maroons women and then will take their own chances when they arrive.

On the back of their strong forward movement which outran the Maroons by 368 metres in Game 1, Jesse Southwell will unlock their backline doing enough with their attack to cover the 8.5-point margin.

Jessica Sergis is still showing she is the dominant centre in women’s rugby league with 3 tries in her last 4 matches, bringing her Origin total to 8 four-pointers. Expect Southwell to seek out Sergis and give her the space to crash over for her second try this series.

  • NSW are 2-0 at Suncorp Stadium in Women’s Origin matches.
  • Four of the last five meetings have produced 38 points or less.
  • The Blues have conceded 14 points or fewer in four of their last five matches against the Maroons.
  • Jessica Sergis has scored a try in 3 of the last 4 Women’s Origin matches.

Head to Head

NSW won the opening match of the series 11-6 making it 3 wins from the last 4 contests.

The Blues hold a 10-6 head to head record.

Recent Form

Queensland showed plenty of positives in Game 1 despite the loss. The Maroons defended strongly for long periods and were dominant through the middle during stages of the first half before injuries disrupted their rotation.

Keilee Joseph was enormous through the middle before suffering a head knock, while Otesa Pule provided immediate impact off the bench with a try. The biggest issue for Queensland was their inability to execute in attacking territory late in the match, with handling errors (70% completion rate) and fatigue costing them momentum.

QLD Maroons Women Team News

Queensland have largely resisted major changes despite the Game 1 defeat.

Phoenix-Raine Hippi has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, opening the door for Jasmine Peters to come into the starting side. Destiny Mino-Sinapati has also been included in the extended squad and could make her Origin debut.

There is also concern surrounding forwards Makenzie Weale and Keilee Joseph after both suffered head knocks in Newcastle. Coach Nathan Cross has included both players in the squad but will wait on final medical clearance before confirming his game-day team.

Recent Form

The Blues once again showed why they are the benchmark side in women’s Origin football. Their defence absorbed Queensland’s early pressure before Jesse Southwell took control with her kicking game and composure in clutch moments.

Southwell’s field goal in Game 1 was the first of her professional career and highlighted the maturity of the young halfback under pressure. NSW controlled large portions of the second half and looked the more organised side once the game tightened up.

The Blues spine continues to impress, with Keeley Nizza, Jocelyn Kelleher and Southwell steering the side around effectively, while Olivia Kernick and Kennedy Cherrington provide relentless effort through the middle.

NSW Blues Women Team News

The Blues have made just one change from Game 1.

Sydney Roosters prop Rima Butler is set to make her State of Origin debut from the interchange bench after Tiana Penitani Gray suffered a knee injury.

Kezie Apps shifts from the bench into the starting second-row role, bringing experience and leadership to the edge.
