Martin Collins Australia Maiden Handicap Tips (Race 2)

Sunshine Coast Value Bet - Race 2 No. 6 Spring Bird

The daughter of Capitalist made two starts in July of her two-year-old season including when debuting with an eighth of ten over 800m at Ipswich on debut.

Racing on a good 4 track that day the filly was ridden from off the pace following an awkward start, eventually coming home just over seven lengths behind the winner.

The pick was stepped up in distance when racing over this course and distance in her second start with a change of tactics seeing her race from the front.

Ultimately, she faded into fifth, beaten just over seven lengths once more having jumped at $31 under Ben Thompson.

The selection hasn’t seen official race action since that effort however she did deliver a victory in an 850m barrier trial here early last month.

Cody Collis, on board for that trial success is again in the saddle and Stuart Kendrick’s filly looks value to break her maiden.

Sunshine Coast Best Bet - Race 5 No. 4 Prado

Diane Murphy’s gelding broke through for his second career win when successful in a 1666m Class 1 handicap at Ipswich at the end of November.

The selection jumped at $21 that day but has proven that he can compete at a higher level in finishing in the top three in all three subsequent starts.

Those starts include a half-length second in a 1690m Benchmark 68 handicap on his return to Ipswich on his penultimate start.

The five-year-old is usually ridden cold as was the case when going down by one-and-a-half-lengths in finishing runner-up stepped up to 1800m at Gold Coast last month.

The pick finished strongly to be beaten one-and-a-half-lengths when contesting a Benchmark 62 handicap that day with the front two finishing clear of the remainder.

The gelding has the forecast underfoot conditions here to suit and with Justin Huxtable a positive jockey booking he looks capable of delivering a victory here.

Sunshine Coast Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 7 Winsome Star

The four-year-old has been in good form without winning this season finishing in the first two in five of his seven starts.

Two of those efforts have come at this venue including when beaten less than a length into second in a Benchmark 70 handicap over this track and trip in January.

The pick finished strongly having been ridden cold from a wide barrier that day and he went on to place second in a similar race to this at Doomben two weeks later.

The gelding was ridden from mid-division on that occasion and faded late on when ridden close to the speed stepped up to 1615 for a Benchmark 70 handicap back at Doomben last time.

While those efforts came on a good 4 surface the wet track expected here shouldn’t pose any issues and with the drop back in distance and barrier five both positives he looks up to recording a win.
