Thursday’s seven-race card at Northam features a typically even provincial program, with a mix of improving types and established performers returning to form. Competitive fields and some open betting races should ensure strong interest throughout the afternoon.

It’s another solid provincial meeting for punters looking to close out the week, with some races offering genuine value in early markets.

Northam Tips November 6

Northam Value Bet - Race 2 No. 5 Tanunda

Speculative selection, but the meeting has plenty of short-priced favourites in some very thin races, and one of them is The Crimson Pirate, an odds-on elect here despite being beaten nearly eight lengths first-up. That came in a stronger race, but he also had three chances over winter.

While a little tardy out, Tanunda arguably moved as well as The Crimson Pirate in an October 13 trial at Belmont, with that galloper pushed out, whereas this three-year-old was looked after late. It was a quiet piece of work that hinted at upside to come.

He’ll need to take improvement from that, but can, and stepping straight to 1400m looks suitable for this stage of the prep.

The gelding is a half-brother and stablemate to Kelvinater, a metro-class performer who has earned over $350k in prize money, and his last victories have all come over this journey.

If he can put it together on race day, Tanunda looks capable of running a big race in a weak affair.

Northam Best Bet - Race 3 No. 1 Magnique

A very consistent sprinter who still has upside as a four-year-old, Magnique resumes off a good trial win and looks well placed first-up at the provincials. She’s completed just two campaigns and progressed nicely last time in, winning two of her first four starts through the autumn.

She was then runner-up to the smart Reposession, who franked that form with a Listed win at his next start and returned to place in a strong Group 3 Prince Of Wales Stakes last Saturday. That reads superbly for a Class 3 at Northam.

Her only poor showing came on a testing Heavy 9 at Saturday metro level in June, and she was spelled straight after.

When breaking through at Ascot in May, she beat a useful type in The Calabrese, who went on to win three of his next six, including an Ascot success last weekend.

With her trial form solid and a clear class edge here, Magnique looks well placed to kick off the prep on a winning note.

And Thats A Wrap For 2025 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Northam Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Strapping Prophet

He made an impression at his second career start when bolting in after an unlucky debut, showing a sharp turn of foot that suggested good upside.

Strapping Prophet then arguably should’ve won at Bunbury in July before a spell, with circumstances going against him that day.

The 1200m trip was the query first-up at Belmont, with his best form from the first campaign coming over slightly further.

He still launched late for third over six furlongs, indicating he’s come back well and should be suited second-up over 1300m.

Interestingly scratched from Tuesday’s Ascot card, he instead finds a winnable race here. Favourite Silent Diva showed promise in her first prep but was only fair when resuming last month. It shapes as a race between those two, with the extra 100m ideal for Strapping Prophet.
