Gold Coast Tips March 14

Call Logic Benchmark 78 Handicap Tips (Race 1)

Gold Coast Value Bet - Race 1 No. 10 Fragile Love

The five-year-old won twice last preparation, including an impressive victory over 1000m at Eagle Farm in July.

The mare scored by more than two lengths on that occasion in a Benchmark 65 held on a Good surface.

She went on to record her most recent success two starts later when winning a Benchmark 82 over 1120m on a Good track at Lismore.

Fragile Love ended that campaign with a below-par effort when beating just one rival home in a 1200m Class 5 at Eagle Farm in early October.

The daughter of No Nay Never has trialled twice ahead of this return and, having won first-up on two previous occasions, she should handle the forecast Soft 7 from an inside draw.

Gold Coast Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 7 Scampi

The son of Blue Point has been running well in defeat in four starts this campaign, including two valuable races here in January.

The most notable of those efforts came when finishing third, beaten two lengths, in the $1,000,000 Howden Magic Millions Snippets over 1200m.

That race was run on a Good surface and the form has held up with the winner Axius performing strongly in Group 3 company subsequently.

Scampi over-raced through the middle stages that day and was given a short break before returning with a sixth in a Warwick Farm barrier trial.

All four of the gelding’s wins have come on Soft tracks and, with apprentice Jace McMurray claiming two kilograms, he looks capable of delivering a victory for the Ciaron Maher stable.

Gold Coast Best Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Hatchet

The ten-time winner has been in strong form since finishing fourth in the Racing Queensland Magic Millions QTIS Open over 1200m here in January.

He led that day before fading late to be beaten just over three lengths and has since produced victories in all three subsequent starts.

Two of those wins have come on Good ground, with the most recent a near two-length success on a Soft 6 at Eagle Farm.

Hatchet was ridden from off the speed from barrier nine that day after previously winning by nearly three lengths in a similar 1200m Open handicap at Doomben.

Vlad Duric retains the ride and, while yet to win at this venue, the Robert Heathcote-trained gelding looks capable of handling the conditions again.

Gold Coast Feature Bet - Race 8 No. 14 Don’tcha Luv’er

The least experienced runner in the field has shown plenty of ability in just two starts to date.

She opened her career with a two-and-a-half-length maiden victory over 1000m at Sunshine Coast on a Soft 5 surface in January.

That success followed encouraging barrier trials, including an 800m Eagle Farm heat win ten days earlier.

The filly then maintained her unbeaten record when stepping up to 1100m at Ipswich, winning a Benchmark 65 by half a length after travelling just behind the speed.

While that Ipswich victory came on a Good 4, the Soft 7 conditions should not pose an issue and Damien Thornton retains the ride for the Jack Bruce-trained filly.
