Bunbury Best Bet - Race 4 No. 4 Just Saint James
The four-year-old has been in great form this prep including when deliver an impressive two-and-a-half-length victory in a 1000m Class 3 handicap at Pinjarra on his penultimate start.
The pick jumped from barrier two and did well to overcome a wide alley when coming home over one-and-a-half-lengths clear of his rivals at Ascot subsequently.
The gelding jumped from barrier ten when stepped up to 1200m at Ascot and that form is working out well with the second, fourth and fifth all winning in metro contests subsequently.
The selection himself went on to lose out narrowly when dropped back to 1000m for a handicap event at Pinjarra just under three weeks ago.
The son of Jimmy Choux was sandwiched by subsequent winners that day with the first and third both going on to salute in the interim.
Robert Gulberti’s representative has forecast underfoot conditions to suit and looks up to recording his third win of 2025.
Tabtouch Bunbury Stakes (Listed) Tips (Race 7)
Bunbury Value Bet - Race 7 No. 3 Vast Art
The son of Flying Artie showed up well in Listed company last prep including when winning over 1400m in the Hannans Handicap at Kalgoorlie at the start of October.
The pick has made just three appearances since then including when trailing in last of six over 1200m in Listed company at Ascot on his return to action last month.
The gelding missed the break prior to being beaten seven-and-a-half-lengths that day but demonstrated improvement when fifth over 1300m at Pinjarra subsequently.
The selection is expected to strip fitter for those two runs back while the step up to 1400m is a positive with four of his seven previous wins coming over the distance.
An inside barrier is a positive here while jockey Clint Johnston-Porter knows the gelding well having been on board for each of his last six starts.
Trainer Darren McAuliffe won this race with Universal Ruler back in 2008 and his representative looks value to provide him with a winner this time around.
Swan Draught Bunbury Cup (Listed) Tips (Race 8)
Bunbury Feature Bet - Race 8 No. 3 Antique Miss
Michael Grantham’s filly has been in great form in recent months registering two wins and two second place finishes from his last six starts.
Four of those efforts have come in Group 3 or Listed company including when taking out the 1800m Group 3 La Trice Classic at Ascot at the start of January.
The pick came home just under half-a-length clear of her rivals on that occasion and she put a disappointing effort over 1500m next time behind her when runner-up at Ascot subsequently.
That Ascot effort came in a Benchmark 84+ handicap and she went on to finish one place better when stepped up to 1800m for the Listed Detonator Stakes at the same venue last time.
All of those efforts came on good going and she is expected to encounter similar underfoot conditions in this event.
A wide barrier is a concern however she arrives here in the form of her life and is taken to record a Cup win with the extra distance she tackles here no issue.
MGIB Handicap Tips (Race 9)
Bunbury Next Best Bet - Race 9 No. 2 Essentric Nature
The New Zealand-bred demonstrated winning form when in the care of Paul Preusker breaking his maiden when debuting over 1200m at Murtoa in July 2023.
The gelding raced on a wet track on that occasion and he has been lightly-raced since finishing seventh over 1300m at Bendigo in October of that year.
The pick was off for over ten months before making his state and stable debut in an 1100m Class 3 handicap at this venue in January.
The four-year-old finished strong to deliver a victory by over a length that day and he met with interference in the straight when fourth over 1200m at Ascot subsequently.
The selection returned to winning ways back at Ascot when stepped up to 1500m for the first two weeks ago and he should have no issues dropping back slightly in distance.
William Pike, on board last time out retains the ride with the pair looking capable of recording their second win together.
