Ballarat Tips July 10

Betavet Maiden Plate Tips (Race 2)

Ballarat Favourite - Race 2 No. 10 Navy Nina

The New Zealand-bred filly trialled well at Benalla prior to making her debut at Seymour at the end of December.

Navy Nina performed well in that debut effort, finishing nicely to be beaten less than half-a-length into second over 1411m.

The filly raced on a Good 4 track that day and having been spelled subsequently, she dropped back in distance to 1212m when resuming at Geelong last month.

She raced from off the pace, having jumped from a wide barrier prior to finishing over seven lengths back in fourth on that occasion.

The three-year-old can be forgiven that effort, having returned lame that day and the step back up in distance is a positive here.

The Ben, Will & JD Hayes team do well at this venue and their representative draws kinder in this second-up attempt.

Ballarat Best Bet - Race 5 No. 3 Dyer

The three-year-old gelding recorded some good efforts over the border last prep, including when saluting in a Benchmark 64 handicap over 1000m.

Dyer raced on good going on the at Morphettville Parks that day and he ended that prep with a fourth over 1100m at Murray Bridge in early January.

The son of Zousain headed into his first start this prep without an official trial and he delivered a highly creditable effort in finishing fourth at Morphettville Parks.

The gelding raced on a wet track, a soft 6 for the first time when beaten less than a length that day, with the underfoot conditions appearing no issue.

A dislodged bubble cheeker hindered the gelding slightly in that appearance and he performed well under the circumstances.

Trainer Michael Hickmott boasts a 66% strike-rate (4/6) on turf here and his representative looks up to providing him with a winner.

Ballarat Value Bet - Race 7 No. 12 She Said

Liam Howley’s mare is a winner already this prep, having triumphed over 1800m via a Benchmark 0-58 handicap at Horsham in April.

The four-year-old won by just under a length when racing on a Soft 6 surface on that occasion.

While She Said has failed to score in two subsequent starts, she delivered a good effort when third over 2000m at Pakenham next time.

Racing on a Good 4 track, the mare was beaten less than a length into third, having raced from mid-division in a Benchmark 70 handicap in May.

She Said returns from a let-up here, having proved a disappointment when finishing sixth over 2460m at Geelong later that month.

The extra distance and good going didn’t appear to suit that day, with conditions more in her favour on Thursday.

Ballarat Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 8 Colour Our World

The daughter of Blue Point has been performing well without winning this prep, registering top three finishes in three of her four starts.

Those efforts include a close second when contesting a 1400m Benchmark 70 handicap at Warrnambool on his return to action at the start of May.

A respectable fifth-place finish at Caulfield followed, with the filly arriving here on the back of two third-place effort, including over 1600m at Sandown last time.

Colour Our World was beaten just under five-and-a-half-lengths when racing on a Good 4 track that day and it’s notable that the second that day won at Sandown next time.

The switch to a wet track is a positive for Matthew Williams’ representative and she shouldn’t have too many issues jumping from barrier nine.

The drop to country-level racing is a further positive for the three-year-old and she looks capable of returning to winning ways.
