Ascot Next Best Bet - Race 3 No. 2 First Encounter

This long-striding son of Dundeel is still lightly raced for a six-year-old and with more progression over November and December, he could be Perth Cup horse. He was in the market via a much stronger affair than this first-up and finished off well over 1400m.

Once again recorded the race-fastest closing sectionals second-up at a mile as a beaten fav, where the winner had a softer run and turn-of-foot to put the race away early, while First Encounter was building through his work.

It's not D-Day, but he should be putting away this lot if there's bigger plans going forward. Each run has been a nice progression toward a more suitable trip.

He finds a very winnable race here, although it's a sharp rise in trip.

Ascot Roughie - Race 5 No. 11 Supido Express

It looks a decent climb in grade, but these One Metro Win events often lack depth and this looks no different, with a deserving fav in Nicciana, but a decent tail after the market elect.

Along with being fitter now with three runs under the belt, which will only help as an on-speed performer, he'll also appreciate carrying 4.5kg less and from gate five, the gelding can take up the early lead.

He showed promise as a juvenile before four flops over his three-year-old season, but his spring efforts indicate that he's ticking over fairly well and was only grabbed late on October 29.

Supido Express gives the impression there’s another win looming and can give cheek at odds here.

Luckygray Stakes Tips (Race 9)

Ascot Best Bet - Race 9 No. 5 Captain Pluto

He was in need of the hit-out fresh, which wasn't a shock at 1400m given he got out to 2000m+ twice last campaign and it was still a solid return.

Captain Pluto then contested the Northam Cup and is well placed to turn the tables on Red Sun Sensation from that Listed affair, where the gelding ran the fastest last 600m and 200m of the program via a slashing third.

A wide gate proved the difference as he got right back vs Red Sun Sensation, who led throughout and along with having a 2kg weight swing on that key rival, Captain Pluto also draws much kinder on Saturday.

He looks set to strike now and should take plenty of beating.

It was a bizarre resumption, where Our Mate Archie was dragged back early from a wide draw and he simply never looked interested after seemingly being checked... did he shy at the rail? Strange, but the second-up showing was far more encouraging.

He worked early to be put on the speed and whacked away honestly in fifth without threatening. There's a platform to spike now, especially with a 1400m run completed.

After drawing out in the October attempts, he now has a soft gate, while the lightly raced five-year-old and was very consistent throughout his first season.

Our Mate Archie can settle handy from the barrier and could improve sharply third-up.
