The Jockey Challenge is a unique way of wagering which allows punters to wager on the person on board the horses rather than the gallopers themselves.
Traditionally, betting on horse racing you're wagering on the horse to win, but with the jockey's challenge your investing on the hoop to accumulate the most points throughout a day to end up on top.
How does the Jockey Challenge work?
Jockey Challenge allows you to bet on which Jockey will be most successful at any given meeting.
Success is based on points allocated for finishing 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a race. For each race at the meeting, 6 points are allocated: 3 points for the winning jockey; 2 points for second and 1 point for third.
In the case of a deadheat, the points are shared (but 6 points is still the total allocation for the race).
How to win on the Jockey Challenge
The more rides a jockey has at a nominated meeting, the more chance they have of picking up points. More opportunities means more chances to pick up points.
Astute form analysts will also take a look at the book of rides to assess the chances. Say James McDonald only has four rides across a nine race program, if he lines up on a set of $1.50 favourites, his chances of maximising his rides would far exceed a jockey who has six rides but lines up on rank outsiders.
Jockey Racecourse Record
The fact is, some jockeys love riding at some tracks and hate riding at others. Whether it’s due to success rate, travelling distance or familiarity of the track, a jockey’s mind-set can determine how well they will perform.
Local jockeys will also know a lot more about how a horse will handle the uniqueness of a track better than a blow in from the city, so be wary of what home town experience can do for a hoop.
Assess Each Race on its Own Merits
The most logical way to find the winner of a Jockey Challenge is to assess each race and try and pick the First 4.
By picking four horses in each race and awarding them points based on first, second, third, and fourth, you can then tally up the predicted points for each rider and make an enducated assumption on how a jockey will go from then on.
