Defending champions Argentina take on World Cup knockout debutants Cape Verde in Miami. Argentina have impressed so far, winning all group games with Lionel Messi leading the way. Cape Verde, unbeaten yet winless, progressed with three draws but showed defensive frailties, notably conceding 27 shots against Spain. Expect Argentina to dominate, likely winning to nil and scoring 3+ goals. Lautaro Martinez is tipped to net again, and a 4-0 win is suggested. Watch live via bet365, but geo-restrictions apply. The forecast is a routine, emphatic Argentina victory.

Argentina vs Cape Verde World Cup Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Argentina continue their World Cup trophy defence in the Round of 32 when they face knockout debutants Cape Verde on Friday in Miami.

It's been a comfortable World Cup so far for the defending champions, with Argentina winning all three of their group games and Lionel Messi playing a starring role, scoring six goals and topping the Golden Boot standings ahead of the knockout phase.

Meanwhile, Cape Verde have made history, reaching the World Cup knockout stage in their first appearance at the tournament, holding pre-tournament favourites Spain to a 0-0 draw before qualifying in second spot in the group courtesy of more draws against Uruguay and Saudi Arabia.

However, while Cape Verde remain unbeaten, they did concede a whopping 27 shots against Spain, with 40-year-old goalkeeper Vozinha producing an outstanding performance. That sort of display isn't sustainable against the elite nations and I fear Cape Verde have run their race for this tournament - and it could end in emphatic fashion, it really depends on how ruthless Argentina want to be.

I'm backing Argentina to win this game to nil and to score 3+ goals, which they have done consistently against a similar level of nations lately. Messi isn't backable at $1.35 odds to score, so instead will turn my attention to striker Lautaro Martinez, who scored his first World Cup goal against Jordan and can double down here. A big 4-0 win in the correct score market also appeals at good value.
  • Argentina have won their last 10 games
  • Argentina have scored 3+ goals in four of their last six games
  • Ten of Argentina's last 12 wins have been to nil
  • Cape Verde's last four competitive defeats have been to nil
  • Lautaro Martinez scored in his last game vs Jordan

Argentina vs Cape Verde Head To Head

This will be the first ever meeting between the nations. Argentina have won their last seven World Cup games against African opposition.

Argentina Form Analysis

It's been a dominant World Cup for Argentina heading into the knockout stage, with the defending champions winning all three of their group games, scoring eight goals and conceding only one.

Argentina got their campaign up and running with a big 3-0 victory over Algeria, with Messi scoring a memorable hat-trick.

Luis Scaloni's side eased to a 2-0 win over Austria to confirm their spot in the R32 before seeing off Jordan 3-1.

La Selección have a nice draw ahead of them, facing the winner of Australia and Egypt in the R16 before a likely quarter-final with Colombia or Switzerland.

Argentina Team News

Messi has scored 75 per cent of Argentina's goals at this World Cup and will return to the starting side after coming off the bench against Jordan.

Argentina will probably need more from the likes of Lautaro Martinez, Enzo Fernandez and Julian Alvarez when they start facing the bigger nations.

Cristian Romero looks likely to return from a knee problem for Nico Otamendi in the centre of defence.

Cape Verde Form Analysis

What a maiden World Cup it's been for the Blue Sharks.

Facing tournament favourites Spain in their opening game, Cape Verde withstood a whopping 27 shots to secure a 0-0 draw, setting themselves up for unlikely qualification into the R32.

Cape Verde managed to claw their way back into a 2-2 with a disjointed Uruguayan side before a another draw with Saudi Arabia on the final matchday saw them progress in second spot in the group.

Bubista's side are the first nation to progress to the knockout stage of a World Cup without winning a game since Chile in 1998.

Cape Verde Team News

Telmo Arcanjo missed the draw with Saudi Arabia and remains in some doubt for this one.

Dailon Rocha Livramento scored four goals in qualifying, but has struggled to make an impact at this World Cup.
