The Voice Referendum Format
In order to vote on The Voice Referendum, you must be enrolled to vote or have updated your enrolment details by 20:00 on Monday, September 18 to be eligible to cast your vote on October 14, 2023. For those over 18 that are eligible Australian voters, voting is compulsory.
The format for The Voice Referendum will see votes pick 'yes' or 'no' in answer to the question 'A Proposed Law: to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. Do you approve this proposed alteration?'
For the Referendum to be successful it will need to receive a double majority of voters. Therefore, more than half of the total national votes must fall in favour of the amendment and more than half of the voters in at least four states must vote in favour.
This means that is half of the national voters or more than half of the electors in at least three of the states vote no then the amendment will not pass and the referendum will not be successful.
