The 2024-25 season is set to be one of the most contested in years with the Kansas City Chiefs going for a three-peat and their quarterback Patrick Mahomes chasing G.O.A.T status. San Francisco are licking their wounds off another Super Bowl loss and will be hungry to go one better while the emergence of the Detroit Lions back to the contender conversation along with reigning Rookie of the Year C.J Stroud geared up with more weapons to take the Texans deeper into the postseason.

31/12/24 - All comes down to the final week
Just $2.00 seprating the top two candidates for the MVP shows just how close the race is heading into the final week.
It feels that Josh Allen does have it wrapped though and it would really be a catastophy if he wasn't to win his first MVP of his career.
26/12/24 - Not Over Yet
Just when we thought the race for the MVP was all over, Lamar Jackson comes back into the frame trying to win back-to-back MVPs by finishing the season in career-best form.
The Ravens quarterback has thrown 10 touchdowns in his past 3 games, taking his tally to 37 this season (second-most behind Burrow). Jackson has alos rushed for 4 touchdowns this season while averaging 53.3 yards on the ground on 8.13 attempts per game.
The final two games ove Josh Allen will determine if he wins his first NFL MVP award. It is up to him to lose, and if he has a poor game, Lamar is waiting in the wings.
18/12/24 - Josh Allen a sure thing?
Josh Allen led his Bills to a fanatic 48-42 victory of NFC North Division leaders and Super Bowl favourites at the time the Detroit Lions, throwing 362 yards and rushing for 68 yards... oh yeah and scoring two passing and two rushing touchdowns.
Allen's athleticism is unmatched in the NFL at the moment and could be the most dangerous weapon we have ever seen in the league.
10/12/24 - All Hail Josh Allen
The incredible season of Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen continues, breaking an unfathobale record in week 14 of the NFL.
there isn't so many times that a player firms in as the favourite for the MVP in a week that his team loses, but Allen did that this week after being the first ever quarterback in NFL history to score 3 passing touchdowns and 3 rushing touchdowns in the same game.
As the odds show, allen is starting to run away things and it will be a real surprise if anybody else wins the MVP from here.
04/12/24 - Allen in command
With the Bills on a 7-game winning run scoring 30+ points in thier past 6 matches, Josh Allen has firmed to become the heavy favourite in the race for the MVP. The Bills Quartback is as short as any this season, coming into $1.39.
If the Bills stay hot and clinch the AFC North and the week off in the first round of the NFL Playoffs then Allen will claim his first MVP award.... unless Saquon rushes for 150 yards a game for the rest of the year, which isn't as unlikely as it sounds either.
27/11/24 - Saquon Barkley reverse hurdles his way into third
The play of the year, the play of the century, I haven't seen anything like it and to top off the reverse hurdle that made it into Madden, Barkley turns up to L.A against the Rams and puts up 255 yards on the ground, 47 yards in receiving and two touchdowns with a single bust of 72 yards. So it is no surprise he has hopped up into third in the MVP race.
Will Saquon Barkley be the first non-quarteback MVP since Adrian Peterson in 2012, time will tell.
20/11/24 - Wide open race
It is clear to say that the MVP is becoming a wide open race and they favourite has been changing depending on who has the best performance during the weekend.
It was Josh Allen's turn now, leading the Bills to a 30-21 victory with a 27-yard run to score a touchdown while barrelling over two Chiefs defenders. The Bills QB also threw a touchdown along with 262 yards at a completion percentage of 67.5 against what is usually a very tight K.C defence.
Jared Goff also came skyrocketing up the list again into third favourite after completing at 82.8% against Jacksonville, throwing 4 touchdowns and 412 yards in Detroits 52-6 victory.
13/11/24 - Hello Kyler
The movement in the top ten in the race for the NFL MVP has settled with Jackson, Allen and Mahomes glued to the top-three spots.
The big mover this week has been Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray who has led his team to 5 win in their past 6 games with two of those wins against crucial divisional opponents, which is why they are sitting at the top of the NFC West.
Murray has thrown 7 touchdowns to two interceptions in his past 5 games averaging 194.4 yards passing and 49.4 yards rushing. The numbers don't blow you out of the water but the former Texas prodigy has found what his team has needed without pushing the issue like he has done previously in his career.
05/11/24 - Four Horse Race
It is clear now that this is going to be a four horse race between Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes and the wildcard Jared Goff.
If Kansas City stay near perfect all season you cannot deny Patrick Mahomes his third regualr season MVP award, it just won't happen. Lamar Jackson has the most pressure to hold his title and will need to continue this amazing statistical surge where he is leading the Ravens to big victories. When it comes to Josh Allen, I'm not sure if he is the conversation at the end of the season unless the Bills go perfect from here on out.
Then there is Jared Goff. This could be the his year. He is playing almost perfect football with a completion rate of 74.9% and has thrown 14 touchdowns and 4 picks. The Lions are a legitimate chance to be the number one seed in the NFC and if they do then Jared Goff deserves the MVP.... if Kansas don't stay perfect.
29/10/24 - Amazing what one week can do
Lamar Jackson was going to win it all again just last week but the Ravens stumbled last week and Josh Allen has now taken over the reigns at the top of the MVP race, despite throwing his first interception of the season. The pick was bound to happen sometime but the Bills QB also threw for 283 yards and 2 touchdowns and led Buffalo to a 31-10 victory.
In my opinion, Jared Goff should be floating higher than both Mahomes and Jackson. He is leading his team to the top of the NFC North throwing almost flawless games every week with a 74.1 completion percentage. He has 13 touchdown passes (8th in NFL) and just 4 picks all year.
Will we see Goff take over at the top at some stage this season?
23/10/24 - Action Jackson the new King of the mountain
Lamar had another monster game against the Bucaneers and could not be denied top spot in the MVP race after throwing 5 touchdowns, 281 yards and no interceptions along with 52 rushing yards in Baltimore's 41-31 win against Tampa.
Mahomes ont he other side of things has been having one of if not the poorest season of his career and battled to get his team passesd an injury effected San Francisco team on Sunday 28-18. Mahomes completed just 16 of 27 for 154 yards and 2 picks, however he still was Mahomesesc with a rushing TD, but it wasn't enough to hold his place at the top.
15/10/24 - Lamar closes the gap to Mahomes
It was the surprise matchup of the week when Baltimore took on rookie QB Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders and it didn't dissappoint with the Ravens edging past 30-23.
The dual attack of Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry has carried the Ravens offence this season and it was another big day for both with Henry rushing for 132 yards and 2 TDs, while Jackson completed 20 from 26 for 323 yards and a touchdown, along with rushing for 40 yards himself. Jackson looks to be having another MVP calibre season, passing for 1577 yards and 10 touchdowns, while averaginging 67.2 yards rushing also.
Brock Purdy also shortened by $10.00 this week as he led San Francisco to a 36-24 divisional win over Seattle, throwing 3 touchdowns and 255 yards and no interceptions.
08/10/24 - The rise of Jayden Daniels
While Pat Mahomes keeps winning the KC quarterback remains the strong favourite for the MVP, but this week it is all about the emergence of Washington rookie and number 2 pick in the 2024 draft, Jayden Daniels, who has led the Washington Commanders to a 4-1 start to the season.
No one in the NFL has a higher completion rate than the LSU prodigy at 77.1% over his first 5 games in the NFL. Many tipped the Commanders to only win 5 games total this season and Daniels and the Commanders are almost there.
02/10/24 - Sam Darnold enters the conversation
If you tipped the Minnesota Vikings to be 4-0 to start the season the keys to my office are yours. If you picked Sam Darnold to be the best quarterback in the NFL after the first month, then you are a lunatic.
It has taken seven years in the league, but Darnold has announced himself as a decent thrower of the ball. The crazy stat, he has trown a touchdown on 10.4% of his passes with 11 touchdowns from 106 attempts and completing at 68.9% and has a league-high 118.9 rating. No wonder why he has firmed in to a $9.75 favourite.
Lamar Jackson also trimmed down his odds this week after dusting the Bills on Monday night. The Ravens QB threw 2 touchdowns and ran in one along with 210 total yards in the match.
26/09/24 - Allen closes in
Buffalo Bills' quarterback Josh Allen has moved within $0.40 of early favourite Patrick Maholmes and in some books is even shorter and the pair are at the same price as dual favourites.
Allen claimed his MVP favourite stakes with a huge performance in week 3 of the NFL season, throwing 4 touchdowns and 263 yards, completing 23 of 30 passing attempts and throwing no interceptions. It is the first time in Allen's 8 season's his first 3 games of the year have been intercept free.
The other big movers in the MVP race in week 3 were Aaron Rodgers who has come into fourth favourite dropping $5.00 in price, while Ravens QB Lamar Jackson has also come in by the same amount.
19/09/24 - Holy Baker and the NFC South
I never thought I would see Baker Mayfield in the top ten of the MVP race after his time in Cleveland but moving to Tampa last season changed his career. Mayfield ranks 10th in passing yards with 474 over the first two weeks and is completing at 73.5%, 6th in the NFL, while having a league leading 5 touchdown passes.
Just outside of the 10, there has to be an honourable mention to the Saints Derek Carr ($29.00) and Atlanta's Kirk Cousins ($34.00), who if last season and career performances didn't influence the odds would be well higher up the list after what they have done in the first two weeks of the season.
Not a lot has changed at the top of the list besides second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud firming in to join Buffallo's Josh Allen as the second favourite. Lamar Jackson continues to tumble after the Ravens 0-2 start, but it he will climb again as soon as Baltimore gets a 'W'.
10/09/24 - All out of Love
The biggest news to come out of the MVP race after week one of the NFL is the injury to Jordon Love which has seen him drop oput of the top ten with uncertainty of his return. The good news for the Green Bay quarterback is the Packers have not put him on IR which is a sign that he will return in the short-term.
The gap between Mahomes and the rest of the field was shortened by a 4 touchdown performance (2 rushing + 2 passing) by Bills QB Josh Allen. A$3.75 difference is now down to just $1.00 despite last year's Super Bowl winning quarterback leading the Chiefs to s big win in the opening match of the season vs the Ravens.
Joe Burrow is the biggest drop on the list without suffering an injury after the Cinncinnati Bengals fell to the New England Patriots with Burrow completing for just 162 yards and no touchdowns.
27/08/24 - Mahomes the clear favourite and rightfully so
It is no surprise that Kansas City Chiefs QB is the heavy $4.50 favourite to start the season. Mahomes will be chasing his third consecutive Super Bowl and the fourth of his six year career as a starter in the NFL. The Texas Tech prodigy is also chasing his third NFL MVP award after collecting the honours in 2018 and 2022.
The Chiefs and Mahomes had arguably their toughest season last year and did not have the receiving weapons they have had in the past and at times through the regular season all faith was lost, but they topped their division and won the whole thing.
In the offseason they have gone out and picked up wide receivers Xavier Worthy (draft) and Marquise Brown (free agency) which is going to make things easier for Mahomes to hit his targets and create space for his number one Travis Kelce. This could be the biggest year yet for Mahomes and he could very well shorten for the MVP award with each week the season goes on.
When it comes to the contenders there are two that stand out for me to start the year, C.J. Stroud and Joe Burrow.
Firstly, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson get ruled out due to the personnel they have lost on offence and defence and I see both of the Bills and Ravens organisations having a tougher year this season, not disastrous, but enough to rule the QB’s out of the race.
Stroud and the Texans have added some serious weaponry on offence bringing in former Bills WR Stefon Diggs who had 107 receptions last season and also picking up Joe Mixon who had 1034 rushing yards for the Bengals. The moves strengthen the offence dramatically for Houston and should almost guarantee an even better season for Stroud.
Joe Burrow is starting the season healthy for Cincinnati and when their quarterback is fit they win games. Burrow is one of the only quarterbacks who has been able to get the better of Mahomes and the Chiefs in recent years. If he stays healthy and the Bengals dominate their division Burrow will be the reason why they are Super Bowl contender in 2024-25.
