The son of D’Argento showed up well in two starts as a three-year-old finishing third on each occasion.

The first of those efforts saw the gelding beaten three lengths in an 1100m maiden event held on a Good 4 surface at Tatura.

The selection backed that effort up with a third place finish when beaten just over one-and-a-half-lengths when stepping up to 1200m at Ballarat just over three weeks later.

While the gelding has been off the track for over a year since that effort he has shown up well in his trials ahead of his first start since joining trainer Carly Thomas.

Those trials include two wins with the first of those coming over 750m on the synthetic track at Pakenham just over a month ago, and with a cross-over nose band applied he looks value here.

Werribee Best Bet - Race 5 No. 6 Impending War

The three-year-old made the perfect start to his career when debuting with a victory in a 1200m event at Wodonga in May.

The son of Impending came home two lengths clear of his nearest rival when racing on a Soft 7 surface.

The gelding went on to complete a double when saluting by half-a-length in a 1300m event at Swan Hill two weeks later.

That Swan Hill success marked the pick’s first outing on a sound surface with the first two coming home over three lengths clear of the third that day.

Ben, Will and JD Hayes’ representative has performed well in his trials ahead of his return to action and he looks up to resuming with a win.

Werribee Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 10 Scheelite

The winner of half of his four starts on soft ground the gelding has been campaigned exclusively on good going since finishing fifth at Moonee Valley in March.

The pick’s subsequent efforts include a victory over this distance in a Benchmark 74 handicap at Bendigo next time.

The son of Real Steel ended his last prep with a good fifth at Group 3 level at Morphettville in May and he returned to action with a sixth at Caulfield in October.

The gelding was beaten just over two-and-a-half-lengths when contesting a 1440m Benchmark 84 handicap that day and he took a step forward at Mornington next time.

The five-year-old experienced no luck when tenth at Cranbourne most recently and, having travelled strongly before being badly held up, he looks capable of returning to winning ways.

Werribee Next Best Bet - Race 8 No. 2 No Fooling

There’s plenty to like about Ciaron Maher’s gelding who has shown up well in all five starts to date.

Those five starts include wins in his first two appearances following up a maiden success at Cranbourne with a victory in a Benchmark 58 handicap at Pakenham.

Both of those triumphs came on good going including by one-and-a-half-lengths at Pakenham.

The four-year-old lost his unbeaten record when third in an open handicap over 1200m at Caulfield at the end of May and he has filled the same position twice this prep.

The selection has been freshened following a third at Pakenham on a Heavy 8 surface last month and, with the step up in trip and quicker conditions expected, he looks capable of saluting.
