Rosehill Value Bet - Race 1 No. 2 Tambeloa

I've always had time for Tambeloa, having been with the colt when he broke through at Warwick Farm on July 30 at a double-figure quote.

Following a short break, the youngster had two runs leading into the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes, where he was our roughie at monster odds and delivered an honest fourth in a race won by the smart Attica.

That form held up strongly when The Pearls, who finished third in the Spring Champion, backed it up with a runner-up effort in the VRC Oaks.

He looks better than Midway grade at this stage, and the 2000m may have just seen him out in the early part of his career.

A freshen and drop in trip is no knock, and Tambeloa appeals as the value runner in the opener.

Rosehill Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 9 Mortal Halo

This colt is exceptionally well bred, being a younger full brother to both Alpine Edge and Port Lockroy.

Alpine Edge was a dual stakes winner, while Port Lockroy is a Group 1-winning stablemate who highlights the depth of this pedigree.

Mortal Halo showed glimpses across five two-year-old runs when contesting strong company, and his October 24 return displayed raw ability when pulling clear late despite doing a bit wrong.

He kept chasing when runner-up in a similar Rosehill affair on November 12 and that effort suggested he is trending the right way.

Ideally, he might be looking for slightly further now third-up, but Mortal Halo is still a horse on an upwards spiral and finds a suitable race.

Asahi Super Dry Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Rosehill Roughie - Race 5 No. 6 United States

United States shapes as a youngster Chris Waller may have earmarked for a Magic Millions 3YO Guineas path if he continues improving.

He will still need to progress to reach that level, but the talent was there as a two-year-old even though he wasn’t fully furnished.

The only genuine flop came in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce at Eagle Farm on a Heavy 10, a surface he simply didn’t handle before going for a spell.

He was badly unsuited first-up at Canterbury when the race was dominated on speed, yet he was one of the few making ground from off the pace and the runner-up franked the form with a big win on Wednesday.

The extra 100m is a major positive now, and United States appeals as a live roughie in a competitive three-year-old race.

Captivant @ Kia Ora Handicap Tips (Race 9)

Rosehill Best Bet - Race 9 No. 4 Hurstville Zagreb

There have been genuine excuses in his past two outings, which are the only occasions he has finished out of the money.

A fourth at Rosehill third-up still had merit, as Hurstville Zagreb was forced to work from a wide draw and was entitled to feel that late.

He was then fractious in the barriers at Kembla Grange and began awkwardly, which prevented him from leading as intended and left him on inferior ground in the straight.

His wet-track stats are adequate, but he appears more effective on firmer going, a point supported by his dominant second-up victory earlier this prep.

Hurstville Zagreb looks well placed to bounce back, although this is somewhat of a D-Day.
