Pakenham hosts a seven-race Thursday night meeting on February 19, with a mix of progressive gallopers and in-form types engaged under lights.

While the focus turns to the midweek program, punters can also track movements in the broader Group 1 Futures Markets as the autumn features continue to take shape.

Pakenham Tips February 19

Best Bet:

Race 6 No. 2 Stay Silent

The four-year-old recorded several good efforts last preparation, acquitting himself well in metropolitan company at Sandown after breaking his maiden at Geelong when resuming.

The selection concluded that campaign with a fourth-place finish, beaten just under three lengths, in a 1400m Benchmark 66 handicap at the start of September.

The son of Deep Field resumed this preparation with a fourth in a small-field 1300m event at Cranbourne before improving to score at Sale last time.

Both runs this campaign have come in small fields, including the 1400m Benchmark 66 he won most recently.

A larger field poses no concern from barrier six and, with suitable underfoot conditions forecast, Ciaron Maher’s gelding looks capable of completing the double.

Next Best:

Race 4 No. 8 Barari

The daughter of Pride Of Dubai made a strong impression on debut when scoring by three lengths over 1200m at Mildura in July.

She subsequently competed in metropolitan grade, including a narrow defeat in a $150,000 open handicap over 1200m at Moonee Valley on her penultimate start.

The filly met with interference in that event before being spelled following a tenth-place finish over the same trip at Caulfield.

The three-year-old rounded out her preparation for this return with a win over 850m at Ballarat in the final of three jumpouts.

With an inside barrier, a weight advantage over rivals and Jamie Melham engaged, she appears well placed to resume with a victory.

Market Mover:

Race 3 No. 2 Mr Independent

Julius Sandhu’s gelding resumed with a fifth-place finish from a wide barrier in a 1400m maiden last month.

Although beaten more than five lengths on that occasion, the son of Doubtland improved sharply when finishing runner-up after stepping up to 1600m at Sandown.

Returning to this venue, the three-year-old has attracted strong market support.

He is now available at $2.70 with Unibet Australia after opening at $3.80.

Stats Say:

Trainer Phillip Stokes holds a 17.5% strike-rate at this venue over the past twelve months, with seven wins from 40 runners.

His stable has also produced a healthy return on investment at the track during that period.

Stokes is set to saddle two runners on the card, with Silent Answer and La Roux both appearing well placed.

Silent Answer recorded two top-four finishes from three starts last year and resumes in the opening race.

La Roux has won three of five starts, including a half-length success over 1000m at Moe last month, and both runners will be partnered by Lachlan Neindorf.
