Newcastle Tips July 14
Best Bet
Race 7 No. 3 Wootton Way
There was plenty of merit in Wootton Way's recent Warwick Farm placing, with the filly continuing a consistent preparation.
Her only unplaced effort this campaign came at Canterbury, where she lost a plate in running and had a genuine excuse for the defeat.
The three-year-old bounced back with a third over 1300m three weeks ago on a Good track, finishing just over two lengths from the winner in a race that has already produced a subsequent metropolitan winner.
The rise to 1400m looks ideal, while the drop from Benchmark 72 company is another positive.
Connections skipped a Canterbury assignment last week to head here instead, and with proven Heavy-track form, she looks well placed to return to winning ways.
Value Bet
Race 3 No. 2 Copartner Pegasus
Consistency has been a feature of Copartner Pegasus' preparation, with four encouraging performances this campaign.
Three of those runs have come on wet tracks, including a narrow second over 1350m at Wyong before finishing third over 1600m at Gosford last time.
The gelding raced prominently in that Heavy-track contest and stuck on well behind a dominant winner.
The drop back in trip poses no concern, while an inside draw gives him every chance to enjoy a favourable run.
Chad Schofield reunites with the gelding for the first time since his debut, and Copartner Pegasus looks value to break through in testing conditions.
Market Mover
Race 5 No. 7 Vexxy
Vexxy made a winning debut over this track and trip in September last year, coming from back in the field to score at long odds.
The four-year-old has trialled twice ahead of her return and has already attracted strong market support.
Richard & Will Freedman's representative opened at $6.50 with Unibet Australia and has firmed into a $4.40 equal favourite.
Stats Say
Trainer Richard Litt boasts an impressive 31% strike-rate (8/26) at Newcastle this season and saddles up two runners on Tuesday.
Tellurium resumes in the opener after two encouraging efforts and should appreciate the drop in grade, while Nuns Chorus steps into winners' company after an impressive maiden victory at Goulburn.
