Murray Bridge Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 7 Classy Claret
The three-year-old failed to shine in his first two starts this prep but he has shown improvement in his two most recent appearances.
The first of those saw him lose out by less than a length when placing third in a 1400m maiden at Balaklava at the start of last month.
The son of Vino Rosso raced on good going when jumping from an inside barrier that day keeping on nicely in the closing stages.
The step up to 1600m appeared to suit with the gelding racing prominently prior to recording a second place finish on a good 4 surface at Balaklava.
The selection lost out by just under a length that day with the form working out well thanks to subsequent wins for the third and tenth horses home.
The extra 200m the gelding gets here isn’t expected to pose an issue and he looks up to overcoming a wide barrier to break through to record his first win.

Murray Bridge Best Bet - Race 5 No. 1 Shimshalar
Sharni Julian’s representative has been in good form this prep registering two wins from five starts.
The first of those wins saw the filly break her maiden when successful by over a length in a 900m maiden at Mount Gambier at the start of February.
The selection recorded two second-place finishes subsequently including when losing out by half-a-length in a 900m Benchmark 56 handicap at Murray Bridge last month.
That runner-up finish preceded the pick’s second win, a half-length triumph when contesting a Benchmark 0-58 handicap over 1000m at Warracknabeal ten days later.
While all five of the fillies’ starts this prep have come on a sound surface she has recorded good efforts in defeat on wet tracks in the past.
The drop back to 900m is no issue here while the filly should be able to race prominently jumping from barrier seven.
Isaac Sit takes a valuable three-kilogram’s off and returning to South Australia his mount looks capable of completing a double.

Murray Bridge Value Bet - Race 7 No. 1 Collated
The son of Hualalai broke through to record his first win when successful by over a length in a 1550m event at Mount Gambier in March.
The selection aced on a sound surface that day and went on to record a decent effort in finishing three lengths fifth in a 1600m contest at Balaklava next time.
The gelding doubled his career tally when saluting by nearly one-and-a-half-lengths in a Benchmark 0-56 handicap at Penola on his penultimate start.
The chestnut proved that he can handle wet conditions when victorious that day and he performed with credit when sixth at big odds in the city last time.
Matthew Seyes’ representative was beaten just over three-and-a-half-lengths when competing in an 1800m Benchmark 70 handicap at Morphettville on that occasion.
The distance appeared to be no issue that day and dropping in grade he looks value to defy top weight with Jacob Opperman retaining the ride.

Murray Bridge Roughie - Race 8 No. 6 Alpine Joy
The four-year-old has jumped at double-figure odds for all five starts this prep including when fourth over 1100m when resuming at Oakbank in February.
While the filly finished unplaced on her next two starts she broke through for her first win when racing at Balaklava on her penultimate outing.
The daughter of Alpine Eagle came home nearly half-a-length clear of her rivals when competing in a Benchmark 0-56 handicap over 1200m that day.
The selection went on to deliver a highly-creditable fourth-place finish when contesting a Benchmark 0-58 handicap over the same distance at Clare last time out.
John O’Loughlin’s representative was beaten just under one-and-a-half-lengths having blown the start prior to finishing strongly on that occasion.
Having gone well from off the pace last time out a wide barrier shouldn’t pose an issue in this contest and the filly may prove capable of upsetting some better-fancied rivals.
