Ipswich Tips May 14

Great Northern QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate Tips (Race 2)

Ipswich Best Bet - Race 2 No. 7 Dubias Miss

Tony Gollan’s filly has shown a liking for wet tracks in three starts to date placing on each occasion.

The first of those efforts saw her lose out by just over two lengths when contesting a 1400m maiden held on a soft 7 surface.

Jumping at $11 the pick attempted to make all prior to fading in the closing stages and similar tactics have been employed for both subsequent appearances.

The daughter of Pride Of Dubai was overhauled in the closing stages when beaten just over half-a-length into third stepped up to 1666m at this venue on her second outing.

The selection made her most recent appearance in a 1690m event here last month, going down narrowly to Zou Big Boy, third in the previously mentioned 1666m event.

The filly was the subject of strong market support when beaten by her stablemate on that occasion however she looks up to breaking through for her first win despite a wide alley.

Schweppes Benchmark 68 Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Ipswich Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 1 Quothquan

The five-year-old has been in good form this prep registering three top four finishes from as many starts.

Those efforts include a good fourth when contesting a 1200m Class 3 handicap when racing on a good 4 surface.

The selection was ridden cold that day taking the eye in losing out by just under one-and-a-half-lengths in a race that is working out well.

A change of tactics saw the gelding appear to appreciate being ridden positively when overcoming racing wide throughout to deliver a narrow victory over 1350m at this venue.

The five-year-old contested a Class 5 handicap on a wet track that day and he went on to finish fourth in a Benchmark 78 handicap at Eagle Farm last time out.

While unable to follow up that day he acquitted himself well and with Cobi Vitler taking three-kilograms off his back he looks up to recording a win dropping in grade.

Ray White Ipswich Class 4 Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Ipswich Roughie - Race 6 No. 3 Downey

The son of Toronado showed good form at Toowoomba earlier this prep registering two winns following a below par last of eleven on his return to action in March.

The first of those victories saw him deliver a narrow margin victory when contesting a Benchmark 58 handicap held on a soft 6 surface.

Mark Currie’s representative got the better of his ten rivals having jumped from barrier eight that day and duly followed up in impressive fashion over 1300m subsequently.

Partnered by an apprentice rider the pick came home over three lengths clear of his nearest pursuer when contesting a Benchmark 60 handicap on that occasion.

The gelding raced on good going that day and he returned to a soft track when finishing down the field at Eagle Farm stepped up to 1600m last time out.

The selection overrated on his first attempt at the distance that day and with a useful apprentice up he may prove capable of springing a surprise.

Seven Class 4 Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Ipswich Value Bet - Race 8 No. 2 Give Giggles

The New Zealand-bred mare takes the eye having made just five appearances since saluting in impressive fashion over 1100m at Ballarat in December 2023.

The pick contested a Benchmark 70 handicap that day and was stepped up to Group 3 company when finishing down the field at Hobart on her first start of last year.

The mare joined the Tony Gollan stable following that effort and she performed well in finishing third over 1000m at Eagle Farm in September on her first start of the season.

The daughter of War Decree failed to build on that effort in two subsequent starts last prep and she was spelled following a last of twelve over 1200m here in November.

The selection again delivered a good first up effort when half-a-length second in a Benchmark 68 handicap over 1100m here at the end of last month.

Emily Lang, on board that day is again set to ride and with her mount boasting a strong record in the wet she looks value to go one better in this event.
