Richardson Hitchins vs George Kambosos Jr Tips

Richardson Hitchins is tipped to retain the IBF light-welterweight title by decision.

  • Richardson Hitchins has a 19-0 professional record
  • 12 of Richardson Hitchins’s 19 victories have come via decision
  • 2 of George Kambosos Jr’s 3 career defeats have been on points
  • Richardson Hitchins has a 6” reach advantage

Richardson Hitchins Form

Richardson Hitchins is the reigning IBF world light-welterweight champion with a perfect professional record of 19-0 (7 KOs).

Hitchins made his professional debut in March 2017 and swiftly climbed the ladder, earning a shot at the IBF North American crown in 2022.

He won the championship by stopping Yomar Alamo in eight rounds, and he went on to add a couple more minor titles in 2023.

The 27-year-old American beat John Bauza via unanimous decision to add the vacant WBC USA title in February, and then added the vacant NABO crown with a points win over Jose Zepeda.

Hitchins surrendered those titles to go in pursuit of a world title fight, and he earned that when he beat Gustavo Daniel Lemos via unanimous decision in April 2024.

The New Yorker took his big chance too, as he beat Liam Paro by split decision to claim the IBF light-welterweight championship last December.

George Kambosos Jr Form

George Kambosos Jr is a former unified world lightweight champion with a career record of 22-3 (10 KOs).

Kambosos Jr made his professional debut back in May 2013 and for the first few years of his career he fought almost exclusively on home soil, winning several regional titles.

The 31-year-old Australian then began to take his act overseas in 2018 in an attempt to force his way into world title contention.

That mission proved to be successful as he won a string of fights, with his split decision victory over Lee Selby in October 2020 finally earning him a shot at world title glory.

Kambosos Jr pulled off the upset too, as he beat Teofimo Lopez by split decision to claim the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and Ring Magazine lightweight titles.

The Aussie’s reign proved to be brief though, as he surrendered the belts to Devin Haney by unanimous decision when the two men fought to unify the division in June 2022.

A couple of months later he dropped the rematch on points, but rebounded in July 2023 as he claimed the IBO lightweight title with a majority verdict over Maxi Hughes.

That earned Kambosos Jr a big fight with Vasyl Lomachenko for the IBO and IBF titles in May of last year, but again he came up short against a big name, this time losing by 11th round stoppage.

He bounced back in March though, beating Jake Wylie on points to earn this world title fight.

Verdict

Richardson Hitchins is not renowned for his knockout power, but what he lacks in stopping power he makes up for in other areas.

He is a skilled fighter boasting a massive reach advantage in this one, so we expect him to dictate pace and distance as he records another points win.
