Teenager Tereza Valentova is backed to reach the WTA Prague quarter-finals with a straight sets win over Maya Joint, who has struggled this year due to injuries and form. Valentova, playing at home and coming off a strong opening round, is seen as the stronger player and is expected to repeat her prior straight set win over Joint from the Australian Open. Joint, despite gradual improvements, has a poor 4-14 record in 2026 and is still far from her best. The key recommendation: support Valentova for a straightforward victory.

Tereza Valentova vs Maya Joint WTA Prague Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Rising teenager Tereza Valentova is backed to return to the Prague Open quarter-finals with a straight sets victory over struggling Aussie youngster Maya Joint.

It's a battle between two bright prospects, but Joint has found it tough to back up her breakout year on tour and has tumbled back down the rankings to No. 77 ahead of this clash. The 20-year-old was struck down by injury and illness at the start of the year and it's taking time for Joint to recapture her best tennis.

Valentova is still very raw, but she's immensely talented and appears in much better shape, especially playing at home after making her first tour-level semi-final in Prague last year.

The Czech dispatched another Aussie in Priscilla Hon for the loss of just four games in her Prague opener and she should be set for a similar sort of dominant victory here.

Joint is gradually improving, but her level is still below where it needs to be in order to make deep runs at WTA level.

She's lost 14 of her 18 tour-level matches in 2026 and the bulk of those have come in straight sets, so Valentova to advance with minimal fuss is the main play for this one - just like she did when they met at the Australian Open earlier this year.
  • Valentova made the Prague semi-finals last year
  • Valentova's last six matches have finished in straight sets
  • Twelve of Joint's 18 tour-level matches in 2026 have finished in straight sets
  • Joint has a 4-14 record at tour-level in 2026
  • Valentova has a 12-5 record vs players outside the top 75 in 2026
  • Valentova's last five matches vs players outside the top 75 finished in straight sets
  • Joint is yet to win completed back-to-back matches at tour-level in 2026

Valentova vs Joint Head To Head

Tereza Valentova Form Analysis

  • WTA Record 2026: 15-14
  • WTA Prague Record: 4-1
  • Current Ranking: No. 64
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 42 (May 2026)

Valentova has established herself as a top 100 player, but her progress up the rankings has stalled slightly after a promising start to the season.

The 19-year-old made the third round of the Australian Open and Doha, beating the likes of fellow youngsters Joint and Alexandra Eala, but that was the last time she won three matches in a row.

It was a lean clay and grass swing for Valentova, but she's at her best on hardcourt and she returned to some decent form with a quarter-final run in Athens last week.

Valentova made her first tour-level semi-final in Prague last year and she's hoping to draw on those memories on her return to the tournament. The Czech was a dominant 6-3 6-1 winner over Priscilla Hon in her opening round.

Maya Joint Form Analysis

  • WTA Record 2026: 4-14
  • WTA Prague Record: 1-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 77
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 28 (Feb 2026)

It was a whirlwind rise into the world's top 30 for Joint, but she suffered some injury and illness issues at the start of the year - and although she's recovered, her confidence has certainly taken a hit.

Joint has only managed three completed wins at tour-level for the season, with her ranking dropping from No. 28 in February to No. 77 in July.

The Aussie was involved in one of the biggest matches of the year at Wimbledon as she subdued the returning Serena Williams in the opening round, but the fact she needed three sets to beat the 44-year-old was concerning.

Joint was bageled in the third set of her second round at Wimbledon by Eala and is back in action in Prague this week, where she again needed a deciding set to edge past teenage wildcard Laura Samson, 6-4 3-6 6-2.

Verdict
