Despite her rise, Joint has struggled against top 20 players, losing 10 out of 13 encounters, with most losses in straight sets. Linda Noskova vs Maya Joint Tips, Prediction & Live Stream
Australia's Maya Joint has a tough opening assignment at the WTA 1000 Qatar Open on Monday when she comes up against ninth seed Linda Noskova.
Joint experienced a whirlwind 2025, claiming two WTA titles and breaking into the world's top 30, which saw her seeded for the first time in a Grand Slam at last month's Australian Open. However, it wasn't the Aussie summer that Joint would have wanted, with the 19-year-old coming into Doha having won just one completed match. Noskova meanwhile is operating at a career-high ranking of World No. 12, but she too would have wanted a better January after being knocked out in the third round of the Australian Open by Xinyu Wang.
As a result, both players will be determined for a successful start here in Doha and you've got to side with Noskova to emerge victorious. Joint - at this early stage - appears to be playing with more pressure and expectation to perform, which will take some getting used to. More importantly in regards to this best, Joint has a horror record against top 20 players, losing 10 of her 13 previous meetings - and nine of those defeats came in straight sets. The young Aussie just isn't up to par with the game's elite at this stage of her career, so take Noskova to get the job done in fairly routine fashion.
Noskova vs Joint Stats & Trends
- Joint is 3-10 vs top 20 players in her career
- Nine of Joint's 10 defeats vs top 20 players have come in straight sets
- Twelve of Joint's last 13 defeats overall have come in straight sets
- Noskova has won 13 of her last 19 matches dating back to last season
- Noskova is 2-0 in Doha first round matches, winning both in straight sets
- Joint is making her debut in Doha this tournament

This will be the first career meeting between the pair.
Linda Noskova Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 3-2
- WTA Doha Record: 4-2
- Current Ranking: No. 12
- Career-High Ranking: No. 12
Noskova is on the verge of breaking into the world's top 10 after a prolific 2025 campaign, highlighted by runner-up finishes in Prague, Beijing and Tokyo to close out the year.
The Czech also played some solid tennis in this region of the world, making the semi-finals in Abu Dhabi, Round of 16 in Doha and quarter-finals in Dubai.
It's been a solid but unspectacular start to 2026 for Noskova - she was bundled out in the R16 of Brisbane by Mirra Andreeva in three sets before a third round exit to Xinyu Wang at the Australian Open, going down 7-5 6-4.
The 21-year-old opted to skip Abu Dhabi last week, so she should arrive in Doha fully recharged in a bid to better her two previous R16 finishes.
Maya Joint Form Analysis
- 2026 Record: 2-5
- WTA Doha Record: 0-0
- Current Ranking: No. 29
- Career-High Ranking: No. 29
Joint has surged from outside the world's top 100 and into the top 30 over the last 12 months, picking up two WTA titles on the clay of Rabat and grass of Eastbourne last year.
However, those two titles did come in the week before Grand Slams, where the draws aren't as strong.
The 19-year-old has endured a rough start to 2026 - she was struck down by illness and proceeded to lose all of her United Cup matches for Australia.
Joint made the quarter-finals of Adelaide, registering her only completed match win of the year by beating Sofia Kenin, but she was crushed 6-0 6-2 by eventual champion Mirra Andreeva. It was a disappointing Australian Open for Joint after being seeded at a major for the first time, going down 6-4 6-4 to fellow teenager Tereza Valentova.
"It can only get better from year to year," Joint said after her R1 loss in Melbourne.
"Disappointing, for sure. I think I'll learn a lot from this match. I'll just come back stronger next year, pretty much."
The Aussie was in action last week in Abu Dhabi, but suffered another opening round exit, going down to wildcard Janice Tjen 7-6(6) 3-6 6-3.
