In one of the strongest WTA 500 draws we've ever seen No. 9 Navarro and No. 10 Badosa clash for a place in the quarter-finals. Both players scored convincing opening round wins, with Badosa crushing Eva Lys 6-3 6-1 and Navarro easing past Marta Kostyuk 6-2 6-3.
It should be a close contest, but I'm leaning with Badosa - the Spaniard is in superior form after returning from injury, while Navarro has failed to win back-to-back matches in eight of her last nine tournaments. Two of Badosa's last three victories have been in deciding sets, so the World No. 10 to prevail in three looks good value.
Head To Head
Currently locked at 1-1. Badosa emerged a 1-6 6-4 6-2 winner in the second round of Rome last year before Navarro was victorious 6-2 7-5 in the US Open quarter-finals later in the season.
Emma Navarro Form
Navarro comes into this clash with a 19-14 record on the season and aiming to recapture her best tennis from last year.
The American enjoyed a breakout season in 2024, but as so many do, she's struggled to back it up the following year.
Navarro started the year in solid fashion, reaching the Australian Open quarter-finals and winning the WTA 500 title in Merida.
However, Navarro's form has dipped considerably in recent times, failing to win two matches in a row in eight of her last nine events - including going down in her second match at Queens last week to Amanda Anisimova in straight sets.
The 24-year-old received a favourable draw in her Berlin opener against Kostyuk, who isn't at her best on grass and made 43 unforced errors in two sets.
Paula Badosa Form
Badosa heads into this encounter with a 16-9 record on the season, once again suffering injuries and struggling to build momentum.
The Spaniard enjoyed an outstanding start to the season by reaching her maiden Grand Slam semi-final at the Australian Open, defeating Coco Gauff along the way.
However, Badosa was again struck down by her troublesome back, retiring at both Merida and Miami and playing just one event before Roland Garros.
All things considered, Badosa did well at the French Open, beating Naomi Osaka to make the third round, while she's launched her grass swing in strong fashion, dropping just four games against wildcard Eva Lys in her Berlin opener.

Verdict
Both players are in need of a deep run to restore some confidence and form.
Badosa's dip has been due to injuries, so if the Spaniard is fit, she has the edge for me, with Navarro failing to win back-to-back matches in eight of her last nine events.
