Top seed Elena Rybakina begins her Dubai Tennis Championships journey against Kimberly Birrell. After a successful stint winning the Australian Open, Rybakina, World No. 3, looks to regain her winning streak following a stumble in Doha. Meanwhile, Birrell enters the match with confidence having advanced through the qualifiers and playing commendable tennis lately. Birrell's strong record versus top-ranked players suggests a potentially close match with value on a +6.5 spread and Over 17.5 total games forecasted for her against Rybakina.

Elena Rybakina vs Kimberly Birrell Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Top seed Elena Rybakina launches her Dubai Tennis Championships campaign on Tuesday night when she comes up against Australian qualifier Kimberly Birrell in the second round.

Rybakina has been the world's best player since the back-end of last year, securing the WTA Finals silverware before conquering No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka for the Australian Open title last month. Rybakina suffered a three-set quarter-final loss to rising teenager Victoria Mboko in Doha last week and will be looking to bounce back here in Dubai. Meanwhile, Birrell is enjoying a relatively solid start to her year and has nothing to lose in this matchup after coming through qualifying - what can the Aussie do against the World No. 3 and reigning Australian Open champion?

I don't mind the value on Birrell with a +6.5 start and Over 17.5 total games. The Aussie has given a pretty good account of herself in recent meetings with the top 10 and also pushed Rybakina close in a tight two-set defeat in their only previous meeting. Birrell already has three wins under her belt in Dubai and made the semi-finals of the 500 event in Adelaide last month. She's playing some pretty good tennis right now. Rybakina might just be cooling down after being on a heater the last few months, so take the Aussie with a big start.
  • Birrell is 2-6 vs top 10 players
  • Birrell has covered a +6.5 line and seen Over 17.5 games in five of those eight matches
  • Rybakina is 92-16 vs players outside the top 90
  • Rybakina has failed to cover a -6.5 line and seen Over 17.5 gams in three of her last four matches vs players outside the top 90
  • Rybakina has seen Over 17.5 games in five of her last six matches
  • The only previous meeting between the pair resulted in a 6-3 7-6 win for Rybakina last year

Elena Rybakina Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 11-2
  • WTA Dubai Record: 12-3
  • Current Ranking: No. 3
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 3

Rybakina has been on fire since the end of last season, winning 16 of her last 18 matches and rising back to her career-high ranking of No. 3.

After blitzing the top eight field to claim the WTA Finals trophy, Rybakina has continued her red-hot form, securing her second Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.

The 26-year-old has won her last 10 matches against top 10 opponents and has well and truly re-established herself as one of the best players in the world after a challenging couple of years.

Rybakina did come crashing back down to earth somewhat in her last event, bowing out of Doha in three sets against rising star Victoria Mboko. The Kazakh has a strong 12-3 record in Dubai, reaching the final in 2020 and the semi-finals last year.

Kimberly Birrell Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 4-3
  • WTA Dubai Record: 1-0
  • Current Ranking: No. 94
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 60 (May 2025)

It's been a decent start to the year for Birrell, who will harbour ambitions in 2026 of eclipsing her career-high ranking of No. 60.

The Aussie won a round in Brisbane before running into World No. 3 Amanda Anisimova.

Not to be deterred, Birrell played some great tennis the following week in Adelaide, advancing to the semi-finals with victories over the likes of Marketa Vondrousova and Anastasia Potapova before going down to Victoria Mboko.

Birrell would have been disappointed with a first round Australian Open exit to countrywoman Madison Inglis - especially as the draw opened up and Inglis went on to make the R16.

After failing to qualify for Doha last week, Birrell has made her way into the Dubai main draw for the first time, moving past Tereza Valentova and Katie Volynets before upstaging veteran Tatjana Maria 6-4 3-6 7-5 in the opening round.
