Rybakina has put together a consistent season and she comes into Ningbo at No. 9 in the WTA Race, meaning she will need a big performance at this WTA 500 event to boost her chances. Rybakina trails eighth-placed Jasmine Paolini by 218 points, with the Italian also competing in Ningbo this week. Meanwhile, Yastremska snapped a three-match losing streak in her Ningbo opener, taking out Montreal champion Victoria Mboko in straight sets.

Yastremska's best tennis is capable of beating the very best, but it's tough to predict when she's going to produce it. However, her game's line of +5.5 looks a bit big here. The Ukrainian has covered that line in both previous meetings with Rybakina, while the Kazakh is under pressure to perform here with the WTA Finals in mind. While it's been a consistent season for Rybakina - she's made 10 quarter-finals or better, with half coming at WTA 1000 events - she's still been operating below her best level, winning just one title (WTA 250 in Strasbourg) over the last 18 months.

The former Wimbledon champion suffered a disappointing loss in the third round of Beijing to Eva Lys before going down in the Wuhan quarter-finals to Aryna Sabalenka.

As a result, Rybakina remains outside the top eight in the WTA Race and will need to do deep in Ningbo to make up ground on the likes of Jasmine Paolini and Mirra Andreeva.

Yastremska has put together a 32-20 record on the season and is clinging onto a top 30 spot in the rankings heading into this encounter.

A former Australian Open semi-finalist, Yastremska's best results in 2025 have been runner-up finishes in Linz and Nottingham, while she also made the semi-finals in Hamburg.

However, after a nice run to the R16 in Montreal, Yastremska has struggled and was forced to withdraw from her second round Cincinnati match before going down in the first round of the US Open and Beijing.

Last week, Yastremska was forced to retire in the third set of her opener in Wuhan against Laura Siegemund with a neck problem. The 25-year-old has bounced back to winning ways in Ningbo, coming back from a break down in both sets to defeat Victoria Mboko 6-3 7-6 in the first round.

Must-win match for Rybakina, but I like Yastremska with a +5.5 line - she's covered in both previous meetings between the pair and should be able to make this Ningbo clash relatively competitive too.
