Third seed Daria Kasatkina has a tough hurdle to overcome if she wants to keep her Adelaide title quest alive when she comes up against Madison Keys on Thursday in the quarter-finals.

Keys won the Adelaide title back in 2022 and remains one of the most powerful ball-strikers on tour, while Kasatkina has unfinished business at this tournament after finishing runner-up in each of the last two editions.

Keys has absolutely dominated this H2H, winning nine of the 11 previous meetings - although the pair have split the last four encounters at two victories apiece.

Kasatkina hasn't looked at her best so far in Adelaide, but she's got the job done to advance into another quarter-final.

The Russian has overcome a pair of Australian wildcards to reach the last eight, easing past Olivia Gadecki 6-2 6-3 in the opening round, but she had a much tougher match on Wednesday night against World Junior No. 1 Emerson Jones.

Jones raced out of the blocks to win the opening 10 points of the match, but Kasatkina managed to weather the storm, subduing her inexperienced opponent and registering a 7-5 6-3 win.

In her opening tournament of the year, Kasatkina was stopped in her tracks by eventual runner-up Polina Kudermetova in Brisbane. The 27-year-old made a habit of peaking at WTA 500 tournaments in 2024, reaching an astonishing six finals and winning two titles in Eastbourne and Ningbo.

Madison Keys Form

Key has played a fairly limited schedule over the last few years, but she remains one of the most destructive players on tour when fit and firing.

Still ranked inside the top 20, Keys can beat anyone on her day if that trademark serve and forehand combo are working.

The former US Open runner-up has been firing on all cylinders so far in Adelaide this week, demolishing Beatriz Hadda Maia 6-2 6-1 before taking out eighth seed Jelena Ostapenko in three sets.

Keys made the quarter-finals of Auckland last week and will be hoping to go deeper in Adelaide, where she picked up the title back in 2022.

Keys has won nine of the 11 previous meetings between the pair and providing she's fit, the American deserves to be considered the favourite here.

Not convinced by Kasatkina's form so far in Adelaide and this is a big step up in opponent from her previous two matches. Backing Keys to cover a -2.5 games line, but it shouldn't be a blowout.
