Gauff then raced past Alex Eala 6-0 6-2 in the quarter-finals in her most dominant performance of the year.

After shutting down her 2025 season early, Svitolina has exploded out of the blocks in 2026, winning more matches than any other player.

Svitolina picked up her 19th career title in Auckland to launch the season and beat the likes of Gauff and Mirra Andreeva to advance into the Australian Open semi-finals, where it took Aryna Sabalenka to stop her.

The Ukrainian couldn't sustain that form in Doha last week as she went out to Kalinskaya in the R16,  but has bounced back in Dubai, where she is a two-time former champion.

Svitolina benefitted from a retirement by Paula Badosa in her opener before edging past Belinda Bencic and Antonia Ruzic in three sets.
