World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka starts her Berlin Open journey against Swiss qualifier Rebeka Masarova, following her defeat in the French Open final against Coco Gauff. Sabalenka, making her return to grass after missing Wimbledon last year, looks to bounce back and regain form. With Masarova's limited experience beyond WTA 250 level, Sabalenka is expected to win comfortably. The match marks their first-ever meeting, and fans can watch it live via Unibet's streaming service.

Sabalenka is competing for the first time since going down in the French Open final to Coco Gauff. Sabalenka rightly received a lot of backlash for her remarks after the final, where she downplayed Gauff's level and blamed the conditions on her defeat. The World No. 1 has since apologised for her comments and will now be looking to move forward by gaining some momentum on the grass. Sabalenka missed Wimbledon last year, so she hasn't had much match practice on the lawns in recent seasons.
In saying that, Sabalenka shouldn't have much trouble in her Berlin opener. Masarova has never never made a tour-level quarter-final above WTA 250 level and Sabalenka is 43-3 vs players outside the top 100 since 2020. Will back the top seed to cover a -4.5 games line in victory.
Head To Head
This will be the first career meeting between the pair.
Aryna Sabalenka Form
Sabalenka has won 40 of her 47 matches this season, reaching seven finals and winning three titles.
However, two of those finals have been for major trophies, with Sabalenka losing in three sets to Madison Keys and Coco Gauff in the Australian Open and Roland Garros title matches.
Those defeats clearly stung and Sabalenka will be hoping for an immediate bounce back on grass after struggling initially following her defeat in Melbourne.
Sabalenka won 17 of her 20 matches on clay, but her campaign ended in more heartbreak with a poor performance in the Roland Garros final.
The 27-year-old will be hoping to improve her record in Berlin, which stands at a lowly 2-4.
Rebeka Masarova Form
Masarova has done a lot of winning in 2025, coming into this clash with a 27-15 record - however, lots of those wins have come on the ITF circuit.
Nevertheless, Masarova has achieved some solid results on the main tour this season, including reaching the third round at WTA 1000 events in Miami and Madrid.
The Swiss has been prolific at WTA125 level, making the final in Vic and semifinals in Puerto Vallarta and Birmingham.
Masarova is enjoying a nice little run on the Berlin lawns, qualifying for the main draw with a win over Maria Sakkari and then crushing Sofia Kenin 6-3 6-2 in the first round of the main draw.
