Switzerland look to end an 88-year wait for a knockout win at a World Cup when they meet Algeria in the R32 at BC Place in Vancouver on Thursday night.
Indeed, Switzerland last tasted victory in the knockout phase of a World Cup back in 1938 and they really couldn't have asked for a better draw here, with Algeria winless in their last nine World Cup outings against European opposition and not really impressing during the group stage.
Switzerland certainly benefitted from an easy group as they finished top ahead of Canada, Bosnia & Qatar, while Algeria were outclassed by Argentina and were forced to come from behind against Jordan before playing out a controversial 3-3 draw with Austria, conceding late into stoppage time in a result that sees them in this fixture rather than taking on tournament favourites Spain.
Both defences are dodgy, so I'm backing both teams to score, while there's value on Switzerland advancing on penalties, with Algeria really struggling in the goalkeeping stocks this tournament, with Luca Zidane having a couple of howlers before Oussama Benbot conceded three goals against Austria.
I'm also going to be focusing on rising 20-year-old Johan Manzambi and Ruben Vargas for player prop bets, with both attackers having great World Cups.

Switzerland are lowkey one of the best teams to watch and they found their attacking mojo in their last two group games to advance top.
Murat Yakin's side were somehow held to a 1-1 draw with Qatar despite having 20+ more shots, but 4-1 and 2-1 wins over Bosnia and Canada propelled them to the top of the group and a more favourable path into the knockout phase.
Switzerland have now lost just one of their last 17 games in all competitions and with the winner of this game facing either Ghana or Colombia for a spot in the quarter-finals, this is a great opportunity for perhaps a historic World Cup run.

Algeria Form Analysis
I expected a bit more from Algeria ahead of this tournament, but at the end of the day, they got the job done to advance into the Round of 32.
Algeria were heavily outclassed by Argentina in a 3-0 defeat in their opening game and were on the brink of elimination after going down 1-0 to Jordan before a late fightback saw them grind out a 2-1 triumph.
The Green Falcons then controversially secured their spot in the R32 in a 3-3 draw with Austria, conceding in the 96th minute in order to move into this game with Switzerland rather than Spain.
Algeria's only previous knockout appearance at the World Cup ended at the first hurdle and they bring a nine-game winless run vs European opposition in this competition into this clash.
