Sporting CP are set for a high-scoring home win against Vitoria Guimaraes in Liga Portugal on Friday night. After letting a two-goal lead slip in their opener, Sporting look to bounce back, bolstered by the form of Rodrigo Zalazar. Guimaraes, on a four-game losing streak and missing key attacker Gustavo Silva, face a tough challenge. Both sides have a habit of scoring against each other, but Sporting’s superior home record and offensive firepower make them strong favorites. Sporting CP vs Vitoria Guimaraes Liga Portugal Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Sporting are tipped for a high-scoring home win against Vitoria Guimaraes in the Liga Portugal on Friday night in Lisbon, opening their account for the new season and continuing a strong recent record against their opponents.

Australian football fans have a new-found vested interest in the Liga Portugal and Sporting CP, with rising winger Nestory Irankunda set to officially join the Lisbon giants from Watford. Irankunda has arrived in Lisbon and should be officially announced after completing a medical, which means he likely won't feature in this game, but should be available for Sporting's match next week against at home against Alverca.
Sporting will hope to have secured their first three points of the season by the time that games does roll around after being held to a 2-2 draw on the road to Estrela in their Liga Portugal opener last week, letting slip of a 2-0 lead with 25 minutes remaining.

Guimaraes meanwhile are now on a four-game losing skid in the league dating back to last season after they were toppled 1-0 at home to Arouca in their opening fixture.

It continues a tough recent period for Guimaraes, who finished ninth in the league last term - their lowest position in eight years. Sporting - who finished in second behind rivals Porto - will be confident of prevailing at home having won both league meetings against their opponents last season.

However, Guimaraes managed to score in all three encounters with Sporting last term, so after firing off 24 shots for no success in their opener, they can get on the scoresheet in defeat in what is looming as a high-scoring affair.

Sporting summer signing Rodrigo Zalazar played a starring role last week in his competitive debut for the club and is tipped for more impact here.
  • Sporting have won 13 of their last 17 home league games
  • Sporting have conceded 1+ goal in six of their last seven competitive games
  • Guimaraes have scored 1+ goal in four of their last five games vs Sporting
  • Guimaraes have lost their last four league games dating back to last season
  • Guimaraes have lost 11 of their last 17 league games on the road
  • Sporting have scored 3+ goals in six of their last seven competitive wins in all comps
  • Rodrigo Zalazar had 21 goals/assists for Braga last season & had one goal & one assist in his Sporting debut last week

Sporting CP vs Vitoria Guimaraes Head To Head

Sporting have won the last three league meetings between the teams, although Guimaraes managed to knock their Lisbon rivals out of the Taca de Portugal last season. Sporting's two league wins last term came via dominant 5-1 and 4-1 scores.

Sporting CP Form Analysis

Ioannidis IoannidisAfter finishing six points behind champions Porto last term, Sporting would have hoped to get this season off to a better start.

Rui Borges’s took a 2-0 lead over Estrela in their season opener last week, but they took their foot off the gas and were made to pay, conceding twice in the last 25 minutes and settling for a 2-2 share of the spoils.

Earlier, Uruguayan attacking midfielder Rodrigo Zalazar opened his account for Sporting with a right-footed strike into the bottom corner before turning provider for Greek striker Fotis Ioannidis.

However, Sporting were unable to ice the game, with Rui Silva's own goal in the 82nd minute condemning them to a draw on the road.

Sporting CP Team News

Zalazar produced a man-of-the-match performance on debut, scoring one goal, registering one assist and completing 22/26 passes, along with three total shots.

Last season's top scorer Luis Suarez was surprisingly left out of the starting side last week, with Ioannidis taking full advantage - it will be interesting to see if he retains his spot.

Daniel Braganca and Pedro Goncalves were both missing from last week's game amid rumours they are about to depart the club - unlikely they feature in this one.

Vitoria Guimaraes Form Analysis

It was a poor season for Guimaraes in the league last term as they club finished in ninth position on the ladder, their lowest position in eight years.

However, Guimaraes did manage to snap a 13-year trophy drought, beating Sporting on the way to Taca de Portugal glory.

Tiago Margarido took charge of the club in March, but that Cup success failed to translate to the league and they've now lost four games on the trot following last week's 1-0 opening defeat at home to Arouca.

Guimaraes may count themselves unlucky not to at least pick up a point after leading the shot count 24-4 - although they managed just three on target.

Vitoria Guimaraes Team News

Key attacker Gustavo Silva was stretchered off last week and appears in doubt for this clash.

Alioune Ndoye looms as a big threat after he scored a brace against Sporting in the cup last term.
