Adelaide United and Cong An Ha Noi meet in a critical AFC Champions League Elite qualifying clash at Coopers Stadium. Both clubs are coming off long pre-seasons, but Adelaide's recent competitive action—despite a setback in the Australia Cup—gives them a slight edge. With both teams known for scoring, the prediction is in favor of Adelaide, leveraging home advantage for victory, yet both sides are expected to find the net. The winner advances to the lucrative AFC Champions League Elite.

Adelaide United vs Cong An Ha Noi AFC Champions League Tips & Prediction

Adelaide United are tipped to bounce back from their Australia Cup elimination and secure their spot in the AFC Champions League Elite when they come up against Vietnamese champions Cong An Ha Noi in the winner-takes-all qualifier at Coopers Stadium on Tuesday night.

It's an absolutely massive match for both clubs, with the winner of this game qualifying into the lucrative AFC Champions League Elite competition. Adelaide gained entry into the qualifiers after Australia were granted an extra spot in the revamped 32-team tournament, finishing second behind the Newcastle Jets in the regular A-League season last term, while CAHN earned this opportunity by winning the Vietnamese League 1 last season.

Both clubs are in the middle of a long preseason, so it's not an ideal slot for a fixture of this magnitude.

Adelaide at least have a competitive fixture under their belt recently, but it wasn't a memorable one, with the Reds going out in the Australia Cup R32 following a 2-1 defeat to NPL Victoria side South Melbourne. Meanwhile, CAHN haven't played since early June after steamrolling the V.League 1 by 10 points, winning 20 of their 26 games.

So it's a tough one to predict, but I have to side with Adelaide at home. CAHN are primarily made up of local Vietnamese players, with a couple of Brazilians and European journeyman. CAHN played Macarthur FC in the AFC Champions League 2 group stage last season and failed to win, drawing 1-1 at home before a 2-1 defeat in Campbelltown.

Adelaide have the better squad and playing at Coopers is certainly an advantage - with CAHN failing to beat Macarthur, but also scoring in both games against the A-League side, I'm taking Adelaide to come out on top, with both sides finding the back of the net.
  • Adelaide have seen BTTS land in 10 of their last 11 competitive games
  • Adelaide have scored 1+ goals in 17 of their last 18 games
  • CAHN have seen BTTS land in 11 of their last 16 competitive games
  • CAHN scored vs A-League side Macarthur in both AFC Champions League 2 games last term

Adelaide vs CAHN Head To Head

This will be the first meeting between the teams.

Adelaide United Form Analysis

Adelaide enjoyed an impressive A-League campaign, finishing second on the ladder before its title hopes were ended by eventual champions Auckland in the semi-finals.

Despite a strong regular season, the Reds struggled to maintain their momentum late in the campaign, winning just three of their final nine matches across the regular season and finals.

That poor form has extended into the preseason, with Adelaide suffering a 2-1 defeat to South Melbourne in the Australia Cup R32.

Adelaide United Team News

Veteran captain Craig Goodwin opened the scoring in the third minute in that Australia Cup defeat before Adelaide conceded two unanswered goals.

Adelaide have lost two of their biggest attacking weapons from last season - Luka Jovanovic and Yaya Dukuly - and are yet to replace them with new signings.

Cong An Ha Noi Form Analysis

It was a brilliant domestic campaign for CAHN in the Vietnamese top flight last season, with the club finishing top of the table, 10 points clear of their nearest rivals.

CAHN won 20 of their 26 league outings and averaged more than two goals per game.

Mano Polking’s side also enjoyed a decent run in the AFC Champions League 2, advancing out of the group stage to make the R16 - but they were heavily outclassed in a 6-1 aggregate defeat to Tampines Rovers.

This will be CAHN's first competitive game since their final league game of last season on June 7.

Cong An Ha Noi Team News

Former Adelaide midfielder Stefan Mauk should feature for CAHN after his loan deal was made permanent for the upcoming season.

Brazilian striker Alan Grafite scored 17 goals in all comps last season and will be the main man up front.
