The Los Angeles Rams will take control of the NFC West with a victory over divisional rivals the San Francisco 49ers.

Both the Rams and Niners have started the season well with 3-1 records, however the Niners did not look pretty last week against the Jaguars, while Matt Stafford and the Rams came up clutch against the surprised packet in Indianapolis coming from behind to snatch victory.

Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan are two great minds and the battle between these head coaches is always masterful. Mcvay has won the last 3 however Shanahan has a 10-6 head to head lead.

The line is sitting right on the mark of course at just over a field goal in favour of the home team, but I see the Rams the likely team to cover. The Niners are banged up and without Kittle in the team Purdy was missing something and will take time finding his alternate receivers.

The run game will also likely feature heavily for the Rams with Kyren Williams out to exploit the weaker half of the Forty Niners defence under new coordinator Robert Salah.

The Niners took their first loss of the season in an ugly performance against giving up 4 turnovers to the Jacksonville Jaguars and going 26-21.

After missing the last two matches, QB Broc Purdy returned and it was a bit of a mixed day giving away 2 interceptions and losing a fumble. Purdy did complete 22 of 38 attempts for 309 yards and two TDs, but you can’t look past those turnovers.

The worrying sign also for the 49ers was their run defence, which gave up 124 yards to Travis Etienne along the ground which was the third consecutive match where San Francisco has allowed their opposition to rush for over 100 yards.

Los Angeles Rams Form

The Rams did it tough against the Colts with Matt Stafford needing to lead LA to a clutch come from behind win trailing Indianapolis 20-13 with 9 minutes left to play. Stafford charged down the field not once but twice in the final minutes with an 88 yard reception from Tutu Atwell sealing a 27-20 victory for the Rams.

L.A have looked the goods so far this year with only a narrow loss to Philadelphia, a game they were in control of and should have won, their only blemish. Any concerns over Matt Stafford’s back are long forgotten with the veteran QB averaging the second most passing yards (278.5/G) in the NFL despite ranking 12 in attempts per game.

The Rams defence has been good without being overly impressive. They rank ninth in total offence by their opposition ranking 10th in rushing yards by their opposition and the same in opposition passing yards. No surprise the 20.2 points they concede is also 10th-best in the league.
