This article previews the NFL Week 5 matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and Cleveland Browns in London. The Vikings, undefeated in London games, are expected to cover the spread, propelled by their strong passing game under Carson Wentz and star receiver Justin Jefferson. Despite their recent close loss in Ireland, the Vikings’ offense is predicted to outmatch Cleveland's underperforming defense. Key picks include backing Minnesota over their team total and betting on Jefferson to score a touchdown and exceed his receiving yard line.

Minnesota have played 4 times in London, one of those wins in 2017 against the Browns. They took care of the Jets last season at Tottenham and will look to replicate the same success albeit with another QB at the helm.

The Vikings were close to overcoming a deficit against Pittsburgh last week in Ireland but couldn’t get the job done. They were relatively successful through the air with Carson Wentz who will once again line up here, J.J. McCarthy still progressing with his injury rehab. The passing game will be what gets Minnesota over the line.

Cleveland were unusually soft in defence last weekend against the Detroit Lions run game but the expectation is they will have a better time against a much less dynamic run attack in Minnesota. The Vikings O-Line will not be able to keep the pass rush at bay but that is about all they have. The host of receivers that Wentz has to choose from will open up the secondary and it is likely they convert even under duress in the pocket.

Take Minnesota to cover the short line and go Over their Team Total. Justin Jefferson is the top pick for a TD and to go over his Receiving Yards total.

  • Minnesota are 4-0 in London and have cleared this line in their two most recent wins against Cleveland.
  • The Browns have the 24th ranked scoring defence, allowing 25.5 pts per game while Minnesota are ranked 10th in scoring, putting up 25.5 pts per game.
  • Justin Jefferson has almost double the amount of targets of any other receiver in the team and averages 81.5 yards per game. WR1 last week had 70 yards off 7 receptions.
  • Jefferson has averaged around about 0.5 TD’s per game through his career, he is currently at 0.25 which indicates he is due.

Minnesota Vikings Form

Minnesota will become the first NFL team to play back to back games in two different countries as they leave Ireland and a 24-21 loss to the Steelers behind them for a matchup against the Browns in London.

The Vikings had a spirited fight back in the 4th quarter, outscoring the Steelers 15-3 but couldn’t do enough to get across the line for the victory as Carson Wentz connected on 30 of 46 throws for 350 yards which included 2 TD’s and 2 INT’s. He was also sacked 6 times by the Pittsburgh pass rush which solidifies them as the most sacked team in football.

Their own defence got to Rodgers only twice but restricted the passing to 200 yards. On the ground it was a different story with the run defence allowing 131 yards and 2 TD’s off of 29 attempts.

Cleveland Browns Form

Cleveland kept things close in the first quarter going into the break at 7-7 but it all fell apart from there as they allowed the Detroit Lions to pile on 27 more points to lose 34-10.

Interestingly it was the Detroit run game which laid the platform despite the Browns having the number 1 rush defence in the league. They gave up 109 yards off 29 attempts including the one TD, Jahmyr Gibbs went for 91 off 15 with a long of 24.

Joe Flacco had a game to forget with 16 completions off 34 attempts with 2 INT’s while being sacked 3 times. Quinshon Judkins ran for 82 yards on just under 4 YPC but no-one else really stood out in the attack. The Browns are now 1-3 and do not even look close to winning another game.
