Warrnambool Tips April 30

Cally Hotel Maiden Plate Tips (Race 4)

Warrnambool Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 15 Porrista

A filly who is from the same family as Marauding (Golden Slipper winner), Porrista caught the eye on debut at Ballarat when getting home from the rear to grab third over 1000m.

The rise to 1200m looks ideal for the three-year-old and the form from April 3 reads well through Spirit Of Camelot (stakes placed next start) and Mr Assertive (subsequent winner).

She also got the better of Blazing Brook in that Ballarat maiden, a galloper who went close to breaking through at her next outing, while this filly has jumped-out recently.

Carlton Draught BM70 Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Warrnambool Roughie - Race 7 No. 10 Red Patrol

This lightly raced six-year-old hasn't done a whole lot wrong since joining the Wayne Walters stable, with three wins and four placings in nine runs for the Mt Gambier yard.

His two misses for Walters have been a pair of fifths, with the second of those coming last start where he was shuffled back at a key stage when carrying 63.5kg at Bordertown.

Red Patrol arrived to that last run off a third in the Mt Gambier Cup, where he was fresh over 2050m and form through that quinella (Thrill Kill and Khoekhoe) has stood up.

Merlin Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Warrnambool Favourite - Race 8 No. 1 Claidheamh Mor

He's been a very good campaigner for connections, with Claidheamh Mor accruing over 550k in prize money to date and winning nine races in Victoria isn't easy.

The son of Dundeel made the leap to metro company last winter, with BM78 victories over June/July, while his spring culminated with a triumph in the Country Cups Final at Caulfield.

He's often dangerous early in a campaign, having saluted in three of five first-up attempts and off two decent Pakenham jump-outs in April, the gelding looks ready to fire fresh.

Jericho Thru Langley's BM70 Handicap Tips (Race 9)

Warrnambool Best Bet - Race 8 No. 17 Truffle Finder

Clinton McDonald has a winning strike of 21% this year and he's in hot form at present, with the Cranbourne trainer preparing three winners from his last six starters.

Jamie Kah is often the go-to rider for the McDonald yard (26% when combining this season) and she takes the reins on Truffle Finder following a much-improved Pakenham run.

The four-year-old only just missed behind a talented Angland on that occasion and there's improvement to come, as he was effectively first-up there after being slow out at Sandown.

Carter Group National BM64 Handicap Tips (Race 10)

Warrnambool Value Bet - Race 10 No. 1 Hay Joe

The BM70 return at Stawell was better than it reads and Hay Joe quickly progressed off that fresh run when taking out a BM66 at Mount Gambier on soft ground second-up.

A lightly raced local from the Pat McKenna stable, the five-year-old did beat some seasoned rivals in that latest performance and distance drop can offset the 62.5kg impost here.

Hay Joe showed promise in his first prep, which included a win over Kusini (metro winner at her next start) and the gelding had excuses when missing a hat-trick bid at Werribee.
