Seymour Tips February 3

Best Bet

Race 8 No. 11 Phoebe Buffay

The New Zealand-bred mare recorded some solid efforts in her native country, including a maiden victory over 1200m at Tauranga in January last year.

The five-year-old joined trainers Patrick and Michelle Payne ahead of this season, debuting for the stable at Wangaratta in December.

She produced a respectable performance there, finishing a four-and-a-half-length fifth over 1400m in a wet-track Benchmark 56 handicap.

The daughter of Sweynesse took improvement from that run when finishing second in a similar event over 1429m at Werribee.

With the form since franked and further progress expected third-up from a favourable draw, she looks well placed to run a strong race.

Next Best

Race 5 No. 1 All The Moves

The experienced son of Bon Hoffa ended his last preparation with a solid second placing in a heavy-track 2050m maiden at Wodonga in late June.

The gelding has returned with two sound efforts over much shorter trips, including a fourth over 1400m when resuming at Wangaratta.

After a five-length defeat at Wodonga, he was stepped up to 2000m at Wangaratta just over two weeks ago.

Trained by John and Chris Ledger, he caught the eye when finishing strongly into third, with the ninth horse home winning next start at Moe.

Back on a Good 4 surface and suited by the extra distance, he is taken to break through for his maiden win.

Market Mover

Race 6 No. 11 Donegal Soul

The four-year-old has recorded third-place finishes in two of her past three starts, including over 2021m at this venue last month.

She was beaten just under two-and-a-half lengths in a Benchmark 62 handicap on good ground on that occasion.

The daughter of Soul Patch has just one career win to date, a narrow 2000m maiden success at Kilmore in April last year.

Trained by Liam Howley, the filly steps up in distance again and will jump from a favourable inside draw.

Strong market support has emerged after opening at $7, with her now firming into $3.90 with Unibet Australia.

Stats Say

Damian Lane boasts a strong 33 per cent strike-rate at this venue over the past 12 months, riding three winners from nine mounts.

The leading jockey has two rides on the card, including Toronado debutant Rip Current in the second race.

That four-year-old has placed in a pair of Pakenham jumpouts and draws barrier five for his race debut.

Lane’s second engagement comes for the Chris Waller stable with The Flying Popov lining up in race three.

The gelding comes off an eight-length sixth over 1225m at Geelong and is expected to be well supported in betting.
