Happy Valley Best Bet - Race 4 No. 5 Turin Mascot

Spelled after a 1400m flop in January, this son of Caravaggio then improved with every run in his second Hong Kong campaign, which culminated in a 2200m victory here on June 28.

Given he was forced to sustain a wide and early run with the eventual runner-up on his back, it was a stronger win than the narrow margin indicates and the 1800m fresh should be fine.

With three 1200m trials leading into this, there looks to be intent first-up with Turin Mascot, who only receives a half-kilo penalty for saluting in this grade last time, so he's very well placed.

Champion hoop Zac Purton stays aboard the Pierre Ng-trained galloper and from barrier one here with a four-year-old that still has plenty of upside, he can make it back-to-back wins.

Magpie Handicap Tips (Race 5)

Happy Valley Favourite - Race 5 No. 8 Celtic Times

He's always been somewhat of a lousy trialler, especially on All-Weather circuits, so while the gelding has been just fair in two hit-out's head of this return, that may not be the best guide.

A strong lead is Zac Purton jumping on from those recent trials and with the gun jockey looking to trust the best-exposed race day form in this lineup, he's landed on the right contender.

Celtic Times was competitive multiple times at Class 3 level throughout his first season in Hong Kong and then dropping to Class 4 company on July 9, a wide gate proved costly in that attempt.

Carrying 1.5kg less from that first Class 4 performance and with the ability to use a low draw early, it's a nice fresh set-up, while the four-year-old also has the highest peak figure in the field.

Happy Valley Roughie - Race 6 No. 2 Telecom Speed

Although he's up in the weights, that is a result of dropping from Class 3 to Class 4 grade and his recent record at this level is handy, with a win, two-thirds and two-fourths from his last five tries.

All of those 2023 outings in this company have come at Happy Valley and although there are no first-up wins recorded, he did place under a similar set-up here back in February.

Telecom Speed carried 59.5kg when saluting in the latest of those back in April, while Karis Teetan, who was aboard for that victory along with a recent trial win, takes the reins here fresh.

Jumping from a wide draw this evening could force a cold ride, however, the son of Street Boss is versatile and if they choose to go back, then there does appear to be enough speed up front.

Honeyeater Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Happy Valley Value Bet - Race 7 No. 10 Round The Globe

Without threatening, Round The Globe was honest in five outings throughout his first Hong Kong season, where he placed three times over the 1200m trip that he resumes over.

Tipped out after a two-length defeat at Sha Tin as a $2.50 chance in July, he now competes at Happy Valley for the first time and traditionally, the Class 4 sprints are a little weaker here.

He did have a look around Happy Valley via a 1200m trial on September 16, so he'll be better for that experience and it's worth noting that the blinkers go on for this fresh assignment.

While the gelding should improve in this second campaign, his best figure in that first prep is competitive enough for this and with 56.5kg, he does get weight off his main rivals tonight.

Cuckoo Handicap Tips (Race 9)

Happy Valley Next Best Bet - Race 9 No. 10 Sweet Briar

A lightly raced son of Shamexpress, the Francis Lui-trained five-year-old hit his straps at starts three and four in Hong Kong, having recorded back-to-back victories over June and July.

While this step to Class 3 level is no walk in the park, his times and figures measure up very well in this field, while Sweet Briar now gets right sown in the weights with just 53kg this evening.

He showed tactical speed without leading in those recent efforts and especially with a 3kg penalty via his latest triumph, it was impressive that he picked himself up late when challenged.

A lovely mover that appears likely to settle in the first few pairs here, Sweet Briar did trial at Happy Valley on September 16 and he wasn't knocked about in the last furlong via that hit-out.
