Panathinaikos looked sharp in their opener, defeating Bayern 87-79 in front of their home fans. The night belonged to Kendrick Nunn, who once again showed why he’s one of the EuroLeague’s elite scorers - pouring in 21 points on 9/11 shooting inside the arc, while also knocking down all of his free throws.

New signing T.J. Shorts had a quiet debut, failing to score, but his playmaking presence still gave the Greens added pace.

Juancho Hernangómez struggled offensively with just 3 points but contributed defensively, while the return of Marius Grigonis after a long injury absence was an emotional boost, even if he only logged limited minutes.

Barcelona’s EuroLeague season began on the wrong foot as they fell 103-87 to Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel. Defensive breakdowns cost them dearly, as they allowed over 100 points in regulation, something coach Joan Penarroya admitted was “impossible to overcome” at this level.

The lone bright spot was Will Clyburn, who led the team with 23 points and 7 rebounds, showcasing the scoring ability that made him one of Barca’s headline summer signings.

Kevin Punter and Jan Vesely added 13 points each, but the Blaugrana were outplayed in intensity and physicality.

The absence of young guard Juan Nunez, sidelined for months after knee surgery, has already been felt in their backcourt rotation.
