In their first game of the new Euroleague season, Zalgiris showed they are a very serious team and can be counted on in the fight for the top of the table.

Coach Tomas Masiulis’ team celebrated on the road against last season’s runner-up Monaco with a score of 89:84.

From the very start, Zalgiris imposed their physicality, forcing their opponent into extremely tough shots.

During those moments, the backcourt duo of Williams Goss and Francisco orchestrated the play, sending Zalgiris into halftime with a solid 10-point lead.

At the start of the second half, they managed to fend off the home team’s surge, thanks mostly to their new acquisition, center Moses Wright, who dominated in the paint.

He finished the game with 21 points without a single missed field goal and deservedly claimed the MVP award, while Williamms-Goss added 14 points.

The reigning Euroleague champion opened the new campaign with a win. In the first round, they comfortably defeated Paris at home with a score of 96:77.

With three minutes left in the third quarter, the game was tied, but then Fener went on a furious 13:2 run to build a double-digit lead – a sequence that proved decisive.

The main spark of that run was veteran Nicolo Melli, who hit three three-pointers in less than two minutes.In the final period, Fenerbahce mostly relied on Wade Baldwin, Devin Hall, and Talen Horton-Tucker to score and calmly closed out the game.

There are many new faces in Fener’s lineup this season, but there is no doubt they will be a serious team once everything clicks.

I must say I really like how Zalgiris’ roster has been assembled this season, despite not having a budget anywhere near the richest Euroleague clubs.

The team has balance and clear roles, and they will be a tough opponent for anyone. This arena will be very difficult to conquer, and I predict they will successfully overcome their first challenge here.
