Real Madrid has obvious problems at the start of the new season.

They failed to win the Spanish Supercup where they lost in the final to Valencia, and they also could not secure victory in their Euroleague opener. Virtus Bologna defeated them in a low-scoring game 74:68.

Throughout the match Madrid struggled against the host’s aggressive defense, and their biggest issue was the three-point shooting that completely let them down. Scariolo’s team hit only 3 of 23 attempts from beyond the arc.

Leading the failures was Mario Hezonja, who missed all 7 of his three-point shots, while Chuma Okeke (1/5 3pt) and veteran Sergio Llull (0/3 3pt) also struggled badly.

Perhaps the most effective player for Real was Gabriel Deck, who scored 12 points and had a positive +/- impact, but that was still not enough to overcome a tough opponent.

Olympiacos Form & Team News

With plenty of ups and downs in their play, Olympiacos still managed to win their Euroleague opener on the road against Baskonia with a 102:96 score.

After leading by 15 points just five minutes into the game, it looked like the visitors would secure a relatively easy win, but that was not the case.

In fact, the hosts even had a 3-point lead midway through the final quarter, but they could not withstand Olympiacos’ late surge. Several players stood out for Olympiacos.

Sasha Vezenkov, after a dreadful first half, finished with a game-high 24 points. Tyler Dorsey had an excellent 21-point performance, while Nikola Milutinov (12 points), Tyson Ward (11), and Evan Fournier (10) also scored in double digits.

However, perhaps the most crucial basket was by Thomas Walkup, whose three-pointer 40 seconds before the end gave his team a two-possession lead.

Verdict

Real Madrid v Olympiacos

The home team will be under much more pressure, as they must win after suffering two consecutive defeats. The fans always demand victories, and each new loss increases their frustration.

It is unlikely that Real Madrid will repeat the dreadful shooting night they had against Virtus, while Olympiacos can afford to play more freely after their road win over Baskonia.

We should expect an efficient game.
