Monaco has struggled to find consistent form early in the new season, alternating between strong and poor performances. After four Euroleague rounds, they sit at 2-2, a record that certainly falls short of expectations for last year’s finalists.

Following their win against Milan last week, Monaco failed to secure another victory in Italy, losing to Virtus Bologna 77-73. 

Despite a subpar performance by their standards, Monaco still had a chance to send the game into overtime, but Nemanja Nedovic missed a potential game-tying shot with five seconds left.

Only a few Monaco players performed at a high level. Nikola Mirotic and Daniel Theis stood out, but the backcourt duo of Mike James and Elie Okobo struggled, especially James, who had a night to forget, hitting just one of eleven field-goal attempts.

After starting the season with two wins, Valencia has now dropped two straight. On Wednesday, they fell 100-93 at home to Euroleague debutants Hapoel Tel Aviv. 

The match was played behind closed doors due to safety concerns, depriving the hosts of their usual crowd support.

Although their offense was once again productive, their defense left much to be desired, as they conceded 100 points and failed to contain Hapoel’s pace. 

Omari Moore was the standout player with 22 points in 22 minutes, continuing his strong debut season. Nate Reuvers and Darius Thompson added 13 points each, Neal Sako scored 11, and Brancou Badio contributed 10.

Monaco and Valencia have met four times in the Euroleague, with the series tied 2-2. Interestingly, the home team has won every game so far.

Verdict

Valencia is likely to face major defensive issues in this matchup. They enjoy fast-paced, high-scoring basketball, but Monaco is not a team you can outgun easily.

Despite still searching for their rhythm, Monaco has scoring options across all positions and should use their talent and home court advantage to claim a much needed win.
