Illawarra Hawks vs Brisbane Bullets NBL25 Round 12 Expert Tips

Two teams that have not lived up to expectations this year could put themselves within 1 win of the play-in with a victory this Thursday night. Illawarra are the favourites to take the choccies at home.

Both the Hawks and the Bullets have struggled with scoring this season. But the reasoning behind the shortcomings is different for each club. Illawarra have the shooting ability, they have just not been able to have all their guys deliver it on a consistent basis week in, week out.

Brisbane, they simply don’t have the scoring depth needed to compete in the NBL since injuries forced them into a lineup reshuffle. With a rookie coach at the helm the task is just that little bit harder for the Bullets who have dropped 4 games straight and are the worst scoring team in the league over the last 5 games.

This matchup also sees the 10th and 9th ranked defences matchup against eachother. With the Hawks pushing the pace at the highest level in the league, this has resulted in them being ranked 10th in opponent FGA and 3PA over the last 5 games. But interestingly the best opponent FG% - work that one out!

Neither team are especially good at taking care of the ball which is likely to continue here given the expected pace and both teams' attitude to trying to score the rock. The most logical outcome is that Illawarra are able to settle their shooting after last weekend’s diabolical performance and will outscore their opponent here.

Take the Hawks to extend the Bullets losing streak while also covering the line. Their team total is set high but they have hit in 2 of their last 3 and in the previous matchup against Brisbane. Tyler Harvey to score 20+ and Alex Ducas to hit 2+ threes.

  • Illawarra have won and covered in 5 straight games against Brisbane.
  • The Hawks have scored 100+ pts against Brisbane in 4 straight and own the best FG% over the last 5 games as well as the 2nd highest ppg average 94.4.
  • Tyler Harvey has had a couple bad outings over the last few weeks, but expect him to rebound against a team where he has shot over 50% in 4 of his last 6.
  • Alex Ducas has averaged 5.6 three point attempts in his last 5 games.

Illawarra Hawks Form & Team News

Illawarra were belted on their home court last start by the equally horrible Cairns Taipans 93-76. Once again it was inconsistencies on the scoring end which saw the game slip away in the 2nd quarter and never return.

The Hawks shot just 38% from the field and 22.7% from distance in the loss. They were also heavily outrebounded 51-40 despite Cairns being the 2nd worst rebounding team in the league this season.

Across the losses that Illawarra have incurred this season, many can be put down to poor shooting form and just not being able to put the ball in the basket. Their defence has slipped somewhat too allowing the 3rd highest opponent 3pt% in the NBL.

Brisbane Bullets Form & Team News

The Bullets tragic season continued last weekend in Adelaide as they slumped to their 4th straight loss, being belted 90-65.

Over their last 5 games, Brisbane are the worst scoring team - by a margin. They are averaging just 80.2 pts per game with every other team bar Sydney in the 90’s. Things aren’t much better on the defensive end, an opponent average of 97.2 pts per game through the same span ranks them 8th in the league.

Everyone knew it was going to be a tough challenge for the Bullets to round out the season with the injury bug hitting hard, but they have gotten much worse and it is difficult to see where they will be able to make improvements.
