The Hawks were unable to string consecutive wins together for the second time this season, going down to Melbourne United 97-75 at John Cain on Thursday night.
Coming off one of their better performances of the year in their 108-85 victory over Brisbane, Illawarra were competitive for the first three quarters against United, down by just 7 at the last break and still had everything to play for. However a fourth quarter collapse, where they were outscored 23-8, saw another game sail away from the reigning champs.
It is the same old story for Illawarra, who are officially the worst defensive team in the competition, allowing their opponents 96.9 points per game. Their lack of defence from the three point line is an underlining issue, with their opponents dropping 33.6 3P% from the perimeter this season.

Adelaide still have a two-game buffer at the top of the table sharing 14 wins with Melbourne, who have played a couple of games more.
