Serbia Form & Team News

After the defeat to Turkey 95:90 it is clear that Serbia will have to take a harder road to reach their goal, winning the gold medal at EuroBasket.

Who knows, maybe this loss came at the right time for Serbia, showing them that they are not such huge favorites after one of the team’s most important players, Bogdan Bogdanovic, had to end his participation in the tournament.

Turkey clearly outplayed Serbia and secured first place in the group, led by the brilliant play of Alperen Sengun, for whom coach Pesic’s players had no answer.

As usual, Nikola Jokic was the most efficient for Serbia with 22 points, while Marko Guduric added 12.

However, once again Vasilije Micic’s performance was missing, and more is expected from him after it became clear that Bogdanovic will not continue in the tournament.

A positive note for Serbia is that the injuries of Aleksa Avramovic and Tristan Vukcevic are not serious and they should be ready for the upcoming match.

Finland Form & Team News

With three wins and two losses, Finland qualified for the knockout stage as the third-placed team of Group B.

They won against Sweden, Great Britain, and Montenegro in matches where they were favorites, while losing narrowly to Lithuania and convincingly to Germany in the last group stage game.

The impression is that they won the games they should have and lost to teams that were realistically stronger.

They spoiled their impression a bit with an awful performance against Germany in which they scored only 61 points.

The team’s main star and one of EuroBasket’s deadliest scorers, Lauri Markkanen, was completely shut down by the German defenders.

The Utah Jazz player had his weakest game of the tournament, finishing with only 11 points and shooting 4/15 from the field.

There is no doubt he is eager to bounce back in the next match, but to beat Serbia, Finland will need not only a great game from Markkanen but also a perfect performance from the rest of the team.

This will be the ninth meeting between Serbia and Finland. Serbia has been far more successful with seven wins compared to Finland’s one.

Verdict

Serbia v Finland

I believe that the defeat against Turkey served as a wake-up call for Serbia, showing them that they will have to work hard to reach their ultimate goal. The offense is functioning well, but there is a lot of

room for improvement in defense.

We are now at the stage of the tournament where there are no second chances, and I expect Serbia’s coach Svetislav Pesic to shorten his rotation and rely heavily on his best players.
