France and Georgia clash in the EuroBasket 2025 Round of 16 following contrasting group stages. France enters as the dominant favorite, excelling with a deep, versatile squad even without several stars. Georgia scraped through with a key upset over Spain and leans on physical play from Bitadze and Shengelia, but depth is a concern. France’s speed and flexibility likely give them the edge, but Georgia’s slower tempo and toughness could keep the game close. Smart bets focus on Georgia covering the handicap and Shengelia as a key scorer.

France Form & Team News

France delivered one of the most well-rounded performances in the group stage, finishing 4-1 while averaging nearly 90 points per game. Their offense looked sharp and unselfish, and they were especially dominant in their last game, where they crushed Iceland by 40 points.

Despite not being at full strength, the team controlled tempo and imposed its style in nearly every matchup.

Several key players are missing: Victor Wembanyama, Rudy Gobert, Vincent Poirier, and Mathias Lessort are all out due to injury or rest. Still, the team hasn’t skipped a beat.

Guerschon Yabusele has emerged as the team’s primary scorer and emotional leader. His 36-point performance against Poland was one of the standout individual displays of the group phase, and he’s expected to be heavily involved again as the stakes rise.

France’s defense thrives on ball pressure and versatility. Their switching scheme and ability to guard multiple positions give them an edge in matchups like this, especially against slower, half-court teams like Georgia.

Georgia Form & Team News

Georgia advanced to the Round of 16 with a 2-3 record, sneaking past Spain in the standings thanks to a head-to-head win. That victory, an 83-69 shocker, was one of the biggest upsets of the group stage and showed just how dangerous Georgia can be when locked in. Their other win came against Cyprus

Their offense flows through the frontcourt duo of Goga Bitadze and Tornike Shengelia, who offer physicality, rebounding, and interior scoring. The guards focus more on controlling tempo than high-volume shooting, and Georgia prefers a slower, methodical pace that leans on half-court sets.

Depth is a concern. Unlike France, Georgia has a shorter rotation and relies heavily on its starters for both scoring and defense. When the bench checks in, offensive production often drops, which could be a problem against France’s deep second unit.

Still, Georgia has proven they can frustrate big teams by slowing the game down and turning it into a grind. If they can limit turnovers, hit a few outside shots, and dominate the glass, they could make this matchup more complicated than the odds suggest.

Head to Head

These two teams have rarely crossed paths in major competition, and this will be their first official meeting at a EuroBasket tournament. With no real head-to-head history, both sides enter unfamiliar territory - adding another layer of intrigue to this Round of 16 clash

Verdict

France enters as the clear favorite and should ultimately progress, but Georgia has shown enough fight to suggest they won’t go down without resistance.

The smarter play in main markets is Georgia to cover the handicap, as their physical style and slower tempo could prevent a full French runaway. For player props, Tornike Shengelia stepping up offensively makes sense, he’s a reliable scorer in tight matchups and will be heavily leaned on here.
